ECU's and chipping

wussup guys. I got a few questions about ecu's and chips.

first, whats the difference between OBD, OBD-II etc. As far as I know they are related to production year/generation.

secondly, its the chip that contains the 'program' for the car right? ie. speed limiter, redline limiter etc. what other information is stored in this 'program'.

third, I know there are various chips (mugen, skunk2 etc) available.. are these programs customized for certain setups? ie. is the mugen chip optimized for mugen i/h/e?

I'm driving a 98 si. I'm guessing its OBD-II, and from I hear there are no chips available for this generation yet. if there are, which one should I get? I've heard of people putting SiR ECU's in Si's and being able to rev their d16y8 to 9000.

not like I'd be using it daily, but I want to be able to push my car to over the 7200 redline (to 8 or 9g's) and take it faster than 185 (to 200 km/h maybe).

thanks!

More emission related. OBD-II has tighter emission control than OBD-I.

Most importantly, fuel map, ignition timing, self learning, knocking sensing and retarding, etc..

Something like that. They improve on the factory map, 'cause the factory map is designed for fuel economy and safety. So, basically, higher redline, leaning out the fuel to gain more power down bottom, and enrich the fuel on top to prevent detonation at above factory spec revolutions. Ignition timing is also adjusted.

No OBD-II chips are out. There are reprogramming services, but I would not try that - still in its infant stage. Only piggy back is out. Using SiR ECU in Si is...plan stupid. The two engines are so different. To rev your d16y8 to 9000 rpm?? YOu better have upgraded internals and vavles springs, retainers, valves. etc.. Too tired to get into details, JUST DON'T!

Your car should be able to go faster than 185. I've hit 212 km/h before the speed limiter kicked in.

how could you possibly use an SiR ECU in an Si? : confused:

fuel map is completely different..and all the while the ECU will be lookin for another cam? hehehe...I'd like to see how much fuel it'll try dumping into the system

Strange, but maybe it works, but sounds pretty wack

Like Redfox said, the OBD I and II differences are mainly related to emission issues.

if you really want to try and remove the rev limiter and lower VTEC get a VAFC or something along those lines for your Si that's probably your best bet

There's no point trying to rev your car to 8 or 9 grand. Unless you have a very radical cam, the car won't make anymore power.

Ok ok wait, you are like Cluster right? Asking retorecal questions to stimulate conversation?

Either that or you've got lots more to learn.
