best tire for track racing?

Does anyone know which tires are good for track racing? Something not too expensive. Because i heard ppl say that if u have cheap tires on the car, it will heat up very fast and u will feel the car pushing or something. Any opinions? What brand is good for track racing? Also am i supposed to put more PSI on the tire when i go track racing or less PSI? Some ppl say more. Shouldn't it be less because the tires heat up very fast and it builds pressure when it heats up because it expands. Can someone answer me if they can. If ppl that are not sure pls don't answer. I don't want the wrong answer. Good to have someones opinion though.

For the first time of lapping on the track, I dont think your tires will get hot that fast like racing. The other way around you should pump more air into the tire for a more stable feeling going thru corners. Just focus on your lines first, the most important. You will learn much quicker with an instructor sit next to you.
Tire pressure depends on the car you have, what tire and weather etc.
For tire, I use Toyo RA1 and Falken Azenis. Azenis is the best bang for the buck, I get the feeling like I am running RA1(within 10 laps)

My friend said azenis is the best for track too. He said it doesn't heat up that fast. How much does the Falkan azenis cost for like 195/50/15? Because u ppl say they are cheap. So how much roughly for a set? Do u have to pay the instructor when he teaches u how to corner on the race track? i never knew there is a instructor in the race track that shows u all that.

the RA1's are great tires, but they cost a fortune! the Azenis are great bang for the buck tires that'll last longer than the RA1's. another option you should look at is the Advan A032r's. they come in soft or hard compound and apparently rock even in the wet...

RT215 doesnt come in 195/50/15, your best option is 195/60/14.
RT615 do come in 195/50/15 but they are pretty expensive, I have not try em yet.
You have to go a driving school to have instructors, but I can always show you some of my lines if you want to at the track. I am always at shannonville posing...

I have use Toyo Ra1 on the track and they stick really good, but they wear down really fast. I have use Advan R032 which i think it's really good also, but I didn't use that for track I used it on street but suppose R032 is pretty good. Also i have tried Toyo T1S which is ok but comparing to R compound no comparrison.
And Less Psi would be better for 15" wise I would recommend
205/50/15

RA1 and Azenis are both nice tires, I have tried both. I might try A032 next season.

615's are about 650 for 4 @ 205/5015

215's were 520ish (3 yrs ago) for 205/50/15/

the new ones are lighter and quiter and have better tread for rain.

the old ones are heavier, and louder but have a little more dry grip then the new ones.

for me, i like the lightness and quietness of the new ones better.

the old ones were also just fine in the rain...only later in life when they got low, you would have issues if there was any standing water or were in a down poor.

RT215 has no grip on wet surface, full tread RA1 feels better.

^ I concur.

Last year, I had a set of RT-215 that were 90%+ new, on a soft turn on 403 in the rain, the car was a little unstable for 1 second.

I am on RA1 with only 4 tread mark showing (at this point, they are no longer directional) with the back nearly bald, and I still grip better in rain than RT 215.

215's have PLENTY of grip in the wet. you want no grip. go drive some xgt v4's .

its only if there is standing water or you are in a downpour that you should be worried.. thats if you have less then 50% tread left.

dont forget that not all pavement is equal. Some areas are very slick, even if on the best rain tire. Not to mention it depends on howmuch rain has fallen aswell. Early on when it starts to rain its much more slick then if its been raining for an hour or all day.

That is just from personal driving experince. 403, the bend between Eglinton and Hwy 10. If I can make the same curve, with nearly bald RA1s, in rain, in the same speed, then to me the comparison is rather obvious.

But Falken still makes good tires. RT 615 will be on my To-Try list as well.

I still don't understand. So more PSI for race track or less air? I got 2 different answers here. In my way i think less air because tires heats up and pressure expands and builds up. B16A_2 "The other way around you should pump more air into the tire for a more stable feeling going thru corners".

So the answer is? I know there is no right or wrong answer, but what would most ppl do and why?

In my experience in motorcycle track days, you adjust pressure based on "feel" and tire temperature. You are correct when saying that the pressure will build as the tire heats up. On a motorcycle I've seen a difference of 8psi (cold --> hot), which is HUGE.

Ideally, optimal pressure is when the tire is warm across the entire tread surface. Too much pressure can give the tires a greasy feel and will become overheated over the entire tread surface. On the other hand, having too little pressure the tire will not have even loading and will heat unevenly, the edges of the tire running hotter than the center.
It is somewhat of a trial and error method to this madness but the use of a tire pyrometer though expensive, will help you if your tracking/racing on a continuous basis.
