Best coilovers?

I'm looking to compare the different coilovers on the market. I'd really appreciate your opinions and experiences with them. I'm considering both full coilovers and sleeves and shocks. What are the advantages of each set?

The car will be used for a daily commute of 200kms, city driving, and some auto-x. It's a 96 Si.

i heard that ground control coils are the "best". I'm not too sure about the quality of weapon R and dropzone. I'm not a big fan of Raactive and would therefore not even consider them for my 99 sedan. Does anyon else have any opinions on coilovers? What would it cost for a full coilover system, not the sleeves?

Re: Best coilovers?

For your applicatoin, i would suggest ground control sleeves with custom spring rate, and kyb agx, or koni yellows. That'll probably run you around $1300 or so??? Or you can buy a set of Teins, Zeals, Apex'I. But Those will be 2k and up. I bought the zeals it's a little too stiff for the street but handles great around corners.

sweet man, which Zeal setup did you buy?

As for answering your question, if you're looking at full coilovers you should look at Tein's or Apex'i for a daily drive application. They're both pretty good, and Tein HA or Tein Type Flex(highest street models that I would buy) are around $1800 + tax I believe. Apex'i WS is plenty for street applications while the Apex'i N1 setup is waaaay too stiff...anyhow...HTH a little

Tein HA is running about 2200 retail now coz I just have a friend ordered a set. I don't know much about Apexi but I heard ppl said they are just too soft, again, not sure about this and also not sure for sleeves either since I don't like sleeves at all. But I don't have a set of Zeal from Type R for sale, let me know if you guys are interested, I am currently using them on my EG hatch and yes, it is quite stiff for me, and I don't think I will go track, just street, that's the reason I wanna sell it.

1600 for Zeal is a very good price I would say. I know a friend ordered a set of Zeal B6 for his Accord cost 3K+, and too stiff, can't stand it and sold it to other one.

I have a friend who uses Zeal function B6 on his Civic and it was really good, I didn't find it hard at all, why didn't your friend adjust the dampening of the shocks to like 1K or something so it's soft like **** ? heheheh...that's what my friend did

He said he did, actually, he didn't adjust the damper at all since he just install it onto the car but on the way home from the shop to home, he found it is too stiff, I never have a chance to get into his car coz he put it out of his car 1 week after that. and sell it to other guy for like 2500+, too bad....... :fustrated

I am using the Zeal B's, and they are really stiff for street use, even though i got the street springs which are 12k front and 8k rear, which is 670lbs Front and 448lbs rear . The race springs were 14kF and 10kR The reason it's so stiff is because Zeal comes with aluminum upper mounts which are rock solid compared to our stock rubber mounts. That's why you will feel every imperfectrions and bumps in the road. I will probably be taking off my uppermounts and put my stock ones back, and that should make it more streetable. Although i am already used to the bumpiness of my ride.

Yeah, maybe that's the reason I feel it is bumpy, I wanted to sell it but since someone can get it for 1600new so I think I might as well keep. how much did you get your function b? mine is basic with street spring rate, 560lb/in and 360lb/in, I already can't stand it.:fustrated

I got mine for around 1600. It's not that bad of a ride, but it is quite uncomfortable at first. Change the uppermounts, it should improve the ride a lot.

Hey all!

Thanks for your replies...

What about the TEIN's??? I can get a set of TEIN HA's for about $1550, or a set of SS"s for $1450 tax in. It'll take a few weeks to arrive, but would you even bother with them? How is the street performance?

Tein HA is pretty nice for street, I had it on my accord(written off) but I love it. SS is designed for street so I think it will be softer than HA. BTW, you can get HA for 1550? is that retail or what? I wanna get that kinda deal too, let me know mroe about it.

For a set of Tein HA's you're looking at 2k and up. There is no need to buy such a price coilover, if u're not using it for the track. A set of ground controls and koni yellows will be just as good for the street. But i prefer a spring and shock combo like h & r springs and koni/kyb etc for the street. I dunno why i bought coilovers Maybe just to say i got coilovers . But hey it's your money do whatever makes you happy.

I have to agree, the TEIN HA's are 2k and above from most parts..if you can get it lower..go for it.

From my experience though, the HA's are a little harsh for daily driving. I have TEIN SS's on my sedan and I have no problems. 22way adjustable dampening, I have it set to middle +2 and the car is nice and stiff, yet handles great for daily driving. in two weeks I'm going to do some lapping, so I'll bring it up all the way to max to see how they do.

I paid 1800 installed and tax incl for my SS's.
