Originally posted by Cosmic Girl :haha: we're talking about "B" series motors here and if the B20 would be a good swap for BoOsTZeX. And Im thinking its gonna be a good swap:yummy: so far no one has tried to discourage it??? other than things like top end and boost capabilites, which with some time and a little bit of money can be fixed before the install... anyone object to a B20 swap? Im trying to dig up as many pros and Cons as I can... anyone think an h22 would be better or worse? I dont want a poor handeling car, as i thrive on hugging the road...Hearing about The B20s tourque makes puts a huge grin on my face :kickass: |
the only bad things about the motor have already been said in this post... i'm thinking of one next spring myself :)
|
Get a new car :kickass: Civics are for sissies who wear panties. *looks down* Oh crap... I drive a Civic :notfair:
If you want torque, and serious... obscene amounts of tire shredding torque, please look into a B18B with a small-ish turbo for little to no lag, and decent top end... talking about 200 torque, 240 hp. :kickass: Try THAT with normally aspirated. But yes, I have no objections to the B20... It is bbarbulo approved as well :nods: |
the b20 is great and cheap have fun with it..... and go turbo later on .....

Cosmic girl, I'm pretty sure I read the posts all fairly well, and I was referring to your post saying that they shouldn't be put into coupes or sedans. Now would you care to rebut that??
As far as the the other quote, JSK has clarified what he meant, and I agree, the B20 wins hands down for low end pull on a B Series, but that is not what he originally said. I'm sorry if I came across as being a jerk. I didn't intend to. it's just that the B20 is something that I know a fair amount about, and when I saee someone looking for one, I like to give accurate information, so that they can make a well educated decision, not one based on innacuracies, or fallacies. I will apologize to each and every member that I have insulted, or angered in any way, that was not my intent at all. Clayton |
more and more people are starting to use this motor now a days
|
All good Clayton,
Sorry if I rubbed elbows with ya, no offense taken. We're an ornery bunch. Back to the topic. The B20  |
I want a 350 chev in my Civic.
:hide: :p |
that would be one torquey motha

LOL j/k Dart/Payn Technologies two liter block :yummy: |
Another plus to this swap which I'm not sure has been stressed enough in this discussion is PRICE... this motor can be found for cheap aswell as a nice tranny. It bolts right into any 5th gen with no fancy mounds and doesn't require retarded amounts of wiring...
Dollar for dollar, this swap will result in one of the happiest butt dyno's around. |

no vtec mean cheapness.... which is always good...
|
but the roar of vtec is worth every penny :nods:
|
Who needs Vtec? If you drive like I do, then you don't really care about gas mileage. I'm always running at the redline anyway. So in that instance, Vtec is pretty useless - get a nice aggressive cam.
|
I forgot to ask...For those that have a B20 - When you say the top end suffers - about where does it top out at? Will it still cruise at 130MPH (forgive me, but my conversions aren't that good ~200KPH?)
|
around 200 km/hr is about right... what rpm do you run at 130 mph? cuz that depends on what tranny you pair up with the B20... for your high speed needs, an LS tranny may be best. If you want brisk accel, then the ITR tranny is king.
|
I was running a ZC in my CRX - redline it would do approx 130ish mph. My shitty stock d16 in my ek hatch will barely do over 100mph.
|
I can definately say that if you want to do high speed runs, DO NOT GET THE B16 tranny. My car at 200 km/hr (on a track of course) is at approx 7000 rpm in 5th. But as far as power, you feel it really drop off in my car at about 6800 rpm, from 6200-6800 it drops a bit, but it is very noticeable at 6800. and To Happy, you couldn't be more right. Dollar for Dollar, the B20 is by and far the best swap for a 5th or 6th gen civic. In my opinion anyways
Clayton |
BJT, my EJ6 does 115 mph no problem... it must be your aerodynamics keeping it back, or you have some shitty mods that limit it. EKs are electronically limited to 190 km/hr too.. the fuel cutoff kicks in, and it's not even redline. Don't ask how I know...
