B20 Engine...inform me!

94EG6HB mentioned in another thread that A B20 has more tourque and options...
 sounds cool, Ive never heard anyone speake of this engine before... Can somone tell me allittle bit about it? What its out of , cams, VTEC, HP, Tourque, comparison to b16, price range... Im totaly interested, cuz Im gonna build something up this winter, and Im still weighing my options for the best platform for a civic coupe...:kickass:

punkindrublic 14-Jul-2003 03:46 PM

its the crv motor... you just put on a b series tranny and you got a torquey 2.0L motor

imported_94EG6HB 14-Jul-2003 03:58 PM

Motor is relatively cheap compared to the other VTEC options..

I was zipping around all weekend with another member with one installed.

Not built (yet)

Not boosted.

Not Franked.

Perhaps I can arrange a passenger seat sit down for you.

All I can say is VTEC what?

This thing rocks..

I still think a B18B with turbo is the best bang for your buck... but the B20 in stock form kicks some major ass... I've witnessed the power *drool* *drool* :kickass:

Haha... he can even rev it with the sunroof open, right Aaron? :)

imported_94EG6HB 14-Jul-2003 04:05 PM

Can you rev it with the wipers on now??

Spray some washer fluid...

Cool.

Thanks..

LOL, those ppl were like... "OMG, that big boy is 'special', don't stare" :haha:

imported_94EG6HB 14-Jul-2003 04:19 PM

That's what my mom says..

I love f00king with strangers..

Could you rev with the back wiper on now..

:D

B20 is nice, but somewhat harder to come by now :p

Simple economics ...

little supply + high demand = pricey :p

ahhahaha you like my simple model? LOL :D

Anyways, a B18A/B will be probably easier to come by and you could just as well make it a 2.0L after some machine work and some money hahaha :p

Cosmic Girl 14-Jul-2003 05:05 PM

Don't get the B20 if you drive a coupe/sedan (kinda pointless) you're better off with the v-tec, the B20 will work best in hatches.

Since B18's are easier to come by and cheaper you're probably better off going with that.

Plus, the B20 that 94EGHB is probably refering to, is the "one" that you can't find that easily (it's not taken from a CRV) - if you want it...plan a trip to Japan or wait for someone to come back with it.

Actually the b20 in question is from a Honda Micro..

Just so you know..

:D

imported_BoOsTd 14-Jul-2003 05:29 PM

is the B20 the one with the Blue valve cover? Like the one from a wagon?

I noticed that first post you sent had a scrollbar, after I posted..heh...

So it seems to be low in hp, comparing to a b16, and even the b18 is lower than the b16..but the tourque, dam thats sweet...so no vtec either...so considering the tourque, it would be a quicker engine right? or would it only be quicker in a lighter car like the hatch, as Cosmic Girl said? should I be aiming for more hp to make up for the extra weight of a coupe?

StatusQuo 14-Jul-2003 05:48 PM

Buddy, do not sacrifice price for style the B20B engine is good but if you want to be a true Type R then you have to put in a B16A5 engine. This engine has DOHC, VTEC, 197HP, and it is even more tunable you can add turbo, supercharger, and all the trimmings without have to worry about superior engine damage to overpowering the stock set of: pistons w/rings, air induction system, or any of the set ups that come on your ride so if you really want a good engine go with the B16A5 because I just install one on Thursday of last week and I took it for a spin when I was finished after 16 hours of work put into this car and let me tell you big difference than the stock D16Y7 it had in it and it was an 98' Honda Civic CX(EK9) now it is a type R.

u mean B18C5....but i heard you can make the b20 just as fast as a typer with a bit more torque if your vtec it

imported_BoOsTd 14-Jul-2003 06:54 PM

On that street imports.com site, the b20b sells for 999$ the type sells for 4999$ five times as much...looks like to me If I took a thousand doller b20b and tore it down, put stronger internals, and possibly a vtec head it would still be cheaper and, have more tourque with compareable hp..It would be allot more work mind you, but thats what a hobby is... What would a B series tranny run me? Ive also heard that D series Trannys are better for Turbo cuz the gears are longer..any thoughts?...would a d tranny fit a b20?

imported_94EG6HB 14-Jul-2003 06:56 PM

D series trannies will not work with b series motors..

imported_eth0r 14-Jul-2003 06:56 PM

nope d series do NOT bolt up to b series motors, get something like a b16 tranny..or b18b for long gears

imported_BoOsTd 14-Jul-2003 06:58 PM

Have you ever Priced a b18b tranny? or ballpark range...
