Exclamation auto tranny problem

I have a 90 Civic DX with an auto tranny prob... I can't seem to get it out of Park and into any other gear when I depress the brakes AND the button on the shift lever... The only way to get it out of Park is to insert another key into the slot at the side of the shift lever to release the locking mechanism, which is kind of annoying... Mind you the car is on and everything, but it feels like the locking mechanism is still engaged...

So what could be the problem? When you depress the brakes, shouldn't it automatically release the locking mechanism in the shifter? Now if it's not doing that, could something either be loose in the tranny, or broken or what? And how can i fix this?

Is your car still stock? Done any motor swaps? Changed ECU? If your ECU is for a manual car it will do that....

Just like mine...My car is auto but right now I have a manual ECu and it locks up until I put a key in...

Thanks for the advice guys, but I found the prob of the tranny... Seems the parking locking mechanism is wired to a fuse in the engine bay that blew out.. When I replaced the fuse, the problem went away, but now I got another prob... Seems the fuse keeps blowing randomly and I can't figure out why??? It's annoying cuz sometimes I can get the car out of park, but when I can't, the fuse is blown... Plus that fuse also is wired to my brake lights, so if it goes, the lights won't come on when I press the brakes which isn't a good thing for road safety... I'm thinking I shorted a wire somewhere but how am I gonna find it?? Any suggestions? I really need to fix this ASAP, and I wanna try and diagnose this before I have to end up taking it to some shop which I really don't wanna do...

EF's are notorious for having bad grounds and shorted wires in the back tail light area due to water leakage. good luck! (ie. measure resistance between each wire AND ground - they should all be infinate, and the one that isn't is the one that is shorted out.
