Hey,

I have no idea where to start when looking for a short shifter kit, not just the bar, I want an actual kit. What are some the brand names out there and what do they go for roughly? (I searched already, found nothing) I would really appreciate it, thanks!

well i just installed a B&M short shifter with new red bushings and its amazing, sooo much tighter with the new bushings and the throw difference is nuts.

i always wondered why people said it was one of there best mods, now i know why

Came to $60 USD shipped with new energy suspension bushings. Extremely easy to install. Only other thing I had to buy was white lubricating grease from CT.

Fred, what do you mean by kit? The shifter and bushing usually come separate. I have a Skunk2 shifter and Energy Suspension bushings and I am totally happy with this set-up.

I think it's a matter of personal preference. Lots of people have stories of cheaper shifters breaking (Punk, Chigga), but I've heard stories of the good ones breaking too. But, a shifter that is steel has alot less chance then an aluminum one.

If you don't want to spend a ton of cash, but want something not too cheap, Solo shifters are around $75. I had one and never had a problem with it.

How much did your set up run you? The Skunk2 shifter and Energy Bushings? Is it single or dual bend?

I was doing some reading on the Skunk2's after ZC_Hatch mentioned it.

Dual bend. I paid $125 for shifter slightly used and $18 for the ES bushings. PM Astroboy for Skunk2 products. A Solo is $75, B&M $100-$125, Neuspeed, Skunk2 $175.

B&M, or C's. USDM glore vs. JDM glore.

I use B&M and I am happy. Short as hell and the B&M bushing is nice and secure.

Get it right the first time.

I like my C's style driving position shifter...everybody that drives my car compliments me on the crispness of the shifts...of course its mated up to urathane bushings!

The Solo shifter is pretty good, install that and cut an inch and a half off the top and install the B&M shift kit (but it will make rattling sounds, if you can't live with the rattle install the urethane kit)

What is a B&M shift kit? I can find nothing on their site that is any different then the ES kit (just bushings). I would recommend replacing all of the nuts/bolts/washers while you're at it with new stainless ones for longevity.

The Solo is pretty short in height to begin with. The point of a true "short shifter" is to shorten the throws, not the height. My Skunk2 is only about 1/2" shorter in height then my stock one.

mine is about stock height at its lowest setting to keep an optimal driving position...but then the throws are short as a B&M or shorter depending on the setting

I run the skunk2 dual bend WITHOUT the ES bushings...I find it has smoother engagement for daily driving.

I just installed a B&M dual bend short shifter (prod#45047) and Energy suspension bushing kit. It's one of the best mods I've done so far. ..throws are wicked fast and the unit is solid. Price was a concern for me, so I went with B&M after doing quite a bit of homework. They have a great reputation for quality. $63 for shifter and $25 for bushing kit from Max Motorsport at Dundas and Dixie. Hope this helps.

What I meant was it's too much of a drag for me with such a short shifter...in some cars you can barely tell where the gears are.
