99 - 00 Civic SIR to Auto conversion

I was wondering if anyone has swapped out the tranny in a 99-00 SIR for a Auto tranny. What kind of tranny would be good? (Prelude?) Looking for it as a daily driver and just thought Auto would be better. Any inputs?

what else can i say? you live in ottawa it's not like you have to deal with Toronto rushhour traffic either? i do that many days and i still have stick... if you want auto get an Si, or Dx, or Cx ..

and back to your question, would they even have a tranny that fit that engine?.... and even if they did wouldn't there be a **** load of problems with the ecu etc...?

JDM B16A automatic tranny from the 4 door VT-i or whatever it is over there. Good luck with your project, and remember to get a new rear tranny mount, you'll need it.

Not that i wouldn't get a Auto Si... it's just that i like everything that the SIR has. The Rims, four wheel disc brakes, the tails (for 99-00) and the front end. Everything else... you can say the Si has... but to do a conversion for an Si... say to get Rims, and Discs would be about the same $$$ ... No?

And the reason why i would want to do a Manual to Auto conversion is cause...
I wouldn't be using this to mod or anything..
And I wouldn't be the only one driving it.. (not everyone can drive manual or wants to).

So ... I was just wondering on inputs on Trannies. A tranny off a B18 or a B16 would be better?

well, not that I would encourage this kinda behaviour... whoring out a rare and significant car, but here is the technological side of it:

Need a JDM B16A automatic ECU, a B-series auto tranny (Integra or JDM Civic), tranny mounts, torque converter, new starter, new flywheel, possibly axles (I'm not sure if the 5spd axles would fit, that's something you'd have to figure out cuz this hasn't been done before), then you need an automatic wiring harness complete interior and engine side too, auto cluster, and auto pedals, shifter assembly, shifter cables (or whatever the auto ones use), and reverse switch, and neutral/park switch, than a new JDM throttle body (possibly intake manifold).

Problem is, to source all this, some used, some new, etc. plus to get someone to do the work... I'd estimating this will cost you about $3500+ because it is a LOT more difficult to add auto to a car than it is to take it away. The whole dashboard has to be ripped out and a new harness must be made/purchased (the 97-01 Integra one MAY work with some customization). The JDM wiring harness won't work cuz the wires will be the wrong length (right hand drive), and the plugs form an integra may not work. Anyways, it's a bad bad bad bad bad bad idea. Trade your car and buy a new 1.7EL acura.

I think it would cost you less to get an Auto Si, and get all the SiR ammenities.

axles should work fine

im using my auto axles on my 5 spd tranny

and the pedals

you dont need new pedals, just unbolt the clutch pedal assembly

the rest stay in

it would be a wiring nightmare, youd need the wiring diagram for everything to make it work
