engine rotation

i'm just wondering.... what determines an engines rotation?? like why do d16's turn counter clockwise while say the new k series turn clockwise??

like what in the engine is different that changes the rotation??

My assumption would be the motor starter, as gatherer said.. then how the counterweights and whatnot on the crankshaft are layed out - to promote motion in that direction.

is that all? like if i get a starter the goes the opposite direction then my engine would spin the opposite way?? obviously that isn't logical for a civic engine on a civic tranny.... but thats all there is to it?

haha, i guess you guys should take a class eh?

the reason the new k-series engines turn the opposite way is for a better wholeshot, the rear end of the car doesn't go as far down as the how should i say it *pre-k* engines, also if you noticed, the engine really isn't turning a different way, it's just backwards from what you're used to, you're used to the intake manifold closest to the firewall, and now the exhaust manifold is closest to the firewall...so i hope that answers your question

so punk, i hope that answers your question
