1.6el brake fluid?

we were going to bleed the brakes on my buddy's 99 1.6el, but are unsure what fluid to use... i know the standard is dot3 for most cars, but does it matter if its abs or not? i mean, i guess it only matters what is in there right now from the last time it was put it.

is there any way to tell what kind of fluid is in there because we are unsure what was put in there last?

also, if the only way is to completely flush the system, about how much fluid will we need? Thanks.

All DOT 3.

The abs system has it's own fluid which is diff, but you ain't touching that.

1 bottle from crappy tire DOT 3 is probably enough.. $8.99 I bought one eysterday. I was able to bleed my clutch and brakes with one bottle.
