stupid question...
i know this is a stupid question and im probably gunna get shredded for it, but oh well...i love the looks of civics especially with an intercoolor on them...so is it possible for me to use an intercooler instead od an air filter?....still use it as a front mount, just run my piping to that instead of my filter?...
hoping i can get some feed back if there is anything wrong with that, that will hurt my car?...
Thanx alot guys..

lol it wont hurt anything but will add weight to your car for no good reason. that front mount intercooler is typically a part of a turbo setup. it is not a replacement for the air filter at all.

You can get air intake kits that mount a large square filter at the front to simulate the look of a front mount intercooler. I believe they call them "interfoolers".
If you ask me, they don't do anything for performance. Your better off with just a short ram or cold air intake system.
Here's a little info in intercoolers and why there are used:
The reason for a front mount intercooler, or an air to air intercooler in general is because when air is compressed by a turbocharger/supercharger, the air heats up significantly. Hot air is much less dense than cold air. When hot air enters the engine it promotes detonation and makes less power. The intercooler cools the hot compressed air running from the turbo to the intake manifold. Dense, cool air makes more power. The reason for mounting it up front is obvious, better air flow through the intercooler = cooler air going into the engine. Top mount intercoolers such as those used on the mazdaspeed 3 and 6 (interwarmers as I like to call them) are mounted right over top of the engine under the hood and are not nearly as efficient as a front mount and should be changed out for a front mount unit. I witnessed a dyno run with 2 mazdaspeed 3's. The first pull went ok, by the second run the engine had a little detonation through the mid range, and by the 3rd run, the top mount intercooler had soaked up so much heat from the engine, it was basically useless in cooling the pressurized air from the turbo and the car detonated so badly they aborted the 3rd run only a few second in. The subaru WRX and STi's top mount intercoolers are not as bad as they have giant air scoops to direct a decent amount of air flow over the intercooler. However, many ppl still swap out the stock top mount intercoolers on WRX's and STi's for larger, more efficient front mount units. And then there's water to air intercooler, but I won't get into that now..lol.
Hope that helps.
