Good turbo *Kit* for a d-series..

Okay I found this kit GReddy Turbo Kit - Bolt-On - GRE-11550050 | Powered By CoxImport - Your Import Performance Headquarters
its pretty decent but its missing a few things.. which sucks..
anyways.. I don't have time to go around and buy parts seperately..
time is money in my case, so could anyone direct me to a online store that'd sell me a complkete kit ( a good kit ) for a ek civic? d16y8?
Thanks!

As far as I know, there is no kit out there that is TRULY complete. You'll always be missing things like injectors, a fuel pump, PCV system, clutch, exhaust, gauges, engine management, etc.

There was a fellow on here who was selling a brand new Edelbrock kit not too long ago in the classifieds. I don't know if it's still for sale, but he was selling it at an insanely low price. Might want to look into that.

But if you don't have the time to get involved with a turbo kit, perhaps it's not the wisest choice, especially if the car is your daily driver.

Jeremy try to piece it together. Get a 14b/16g/gt25/gt28. Something small for a fun street car.
It will be cheaper and as previously said, no kit is fully complete.

When you get into serious mods, like turbocharging, I can't stress enough; Do not cheap out and do not rush the installation.

These things take time and money and need to be done right.

The greddy kit isnt a bad kit but its very limited if you ever want to make bigger number you will have to replace most of the parts.I dont know what your budget is but something like a Fullrace kit you will be able to go allot farther with.

the edelbrock kit is nice, but its pricey as hell and comes with things you don't really need.

If you just want a simple kit to make 200(ish)whp then go with something like the greddy kit. Its cheap and is actually a half-decent kit for the d-series'. The turbo is a little small, but can be upgraded for another greddy/mitsu turbo (16g, 18g, etc etc) for more power. Its nice because its also an a/c and p/s compatible kit.

If you want something that will make a little more power look into the AFI or full race kits or something along those lines.

Blowing holes though blocks at 6psi? yikes!

Tuning is key with turbo cars. Don't forget about bigger injectors, better fuel pump, colder spark plugs and tuning. You'll also most likely eventually need a better clutch to hold the extra torque produced.

Zee>, It was my friends car, wasnt built at all haha.. just needed to swap a motor...

Agreed with stillslow tho that kit would be nice, but for the HP gain a lil expensive for my liking...*iv'e got my.. i wanna go fast habbits* so first thing id do if i did get it would be a 16g , they hold their own and their really cost effective.

I started with a DRAG kit on my last b18, 8lbs with a good tune it was a blast

PS: Save yourself compressor surge and get a good BOV...

Don't wanna sound like a douche or anything but just a little insight on comp surge :S

Compressor surge is a phenomenon experienced when boost pressure inside the intake tract builds up and has no convenient relief method. This is usually caused from the throttle plate closing quickly. Changing load conditions (off throttle) resulting in varying amounts of exhaust gas can also simulate such conditions.

In such a case, the pressure takes the only way out through the turbocharger compressor housing. The unique sound is caused by the pressure charge encountering the spinning compressor wheel on its escape from the engine.

Well, no idea where to get specific parts, I wish I could just order separate parts cheap during the summer until I have everything.. I want to get the turbo first then injectors, then BOV etc..
any tips?
I hate searching through kijiji and there is never anything on the toronto civics forum either.

I have like a few hundred every paycheck to put on the turbo.

My d16y8 has 166k km and I hope it'll be good enough to put the turbo on it.

Anyone have any tips for parts
PLEASE let me know.

use a decent turbo, wastegate (if the turbo isn't internally gated), blow-off valve and turbo manifold. These IMO are the most important parts of a solid turbo kit. You can use an ebay intercooler and piping kit and have someone fabricate a downpipe to fit your cars exhaust. Then go over to fluidline for the oil feed/return lines and any fittings you'll need.

Don't I need a boost controller.. and a custom ecu?
I'll be running the civic during the winter also and would like to 'shut off' the turbo and save gas lol

zeeman, you also have any recommendations and specific part names for my d16y8 99 ek?
you told me to get a small garret turbo I forget what type and also I'll search kijiji and ebay if I knew which parts I need specifically that don't need to be custom

you'll need to convert to obd1 and use a chipped p28 so you can get the car tuned.

You should get 450cc injectors and a higher volume fuel pump (like a walbro 255lph), along with 1 heat range colder spark plugs.

A boost controller will only turn UP the boost, not down. With a boost controller the minimum boost you can run is whatever the spring in the wastegate is set to. So lets say you have a 7psi spring in the wastegate, 7psi will be the least amount of boost you'll be able to run and you can use the boost controller to turn the boost up to whatever PSI you want.

If you don't want any boost, don't step on the gas hard. I can drive my car all day without seeing any boost, if you take it easy the turbo won't spool. I drive my car year round as well, but can't run any less than 5psi of boost because i'm using a 5psi spring in the wastegate.

Don't know if this is what you are looking for, but I still have a like new Garrett GT28R with brand new manifold and 3" downpipe. A/C and P/S compatible. I also have a lightly used intercooler with charge piping, or I can get you a new intercooler if you like. Charge piping already has a BOV mounted, but I also have another used BOV somewhere kicking around.

I might have some other stuff, but I'll have to check. In any event, I have a ton of stuff you'll need, and its all in good shape, so if you want it just give me a shout.

Hope this helps. Cheers.
