whistling noise at idle

hi there

lately ive been noticing a whistling noise when i am at idle coming from the engine.. i am thinking it could be a belt... is that a sign of the timing belt needing to be changed? it was already changed once at 120k...the car is now at 234k.. it sounds like a steady whine/whistle..

any help on what this is?

thanks

check your air filter and clean out your throttle body and all, could just be your engine being "suffocated" if its just a whistle and not a squeal

This may sound dumb but I also have a whistling noise comming from the engine however it has nothing to do with any engine part. Its just a piece of metal close to the rad. Actually when I go and put my weight pressing down the hood the noise is gone... I thought it may be the front grill but i just changed it and the noise is still there but it is gone when i put weight on the hood... OLD cars !!

regardless of where the whistling sound is coming from, you are definitely due for a new timing belt and water pump. The sound could be your alternator also.

Indeed. Every 100k it's a good idea to replace 'em.

Yes, definitely get the timing belt changed. Also the whistling noise could be iac valve...when I had some issues with my old civic, I bumped up the idle and the valve got quite loud during idle. May need a good clean.

I have a whistling noise as well but mine is coming from the air intake as I am choking the engine for sure. Stock intake FTL

if your car has an aftermarket air intake it could be whistling as well.
