Need help with cooling system problem!!

whats up TCC

my buddy has a 94 civic se, his car is overheating frequently. he just changed water pump/timing belt, head gasket (shaved the head while it was out), radiator (and cap), went thru 3 t-stats..pretty much all of the cooling system components.. what else could be the problem? there are no leaks...and the weird thing is..it over heats every 2-3 weeks.. we're stumped

any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks

Improper installation of any of the parts u installed. It also could be that u didnt bleed the cooling system.

are you sure that you are indeed overheating and not just getting an improper reading from the temperature guage?

is the rad fan operational? under what conditions does it overheat (highway, city, parking lot, idle, full throttle or what?)

that would suck if it was the gauge after changing all those parts

serves him right. What kind of idiot just changes parts because it CAN overheat.

hmm.. my belts squeeling, better changes all 3 belts, all 3 pulleys, crank pulley and timing belt.

Learn how to diagnosis a car, it would of been cheaper to just send it to a mechanic. If its when the car is stopped, its your fan or fan switch. I have yet to see a coolant gauge fail on a honda (common on GM's) but they can be on/off type thing.

what mods are done to the car involving the coolant system? you mentioned the head was shaved. what about tings like the rad, is it a stock half rad, or a full one? I have seen when a race rad replaced a half rad it was tasking the heat of hte exhaust manifold and the car would run hot, not quite overheating but hotter then normal. header wrap and a cai put him back down into the normal range, just below half like every other honda out there.

I'd bet that the system hasn't been bled properly tho. I know it takes longer but you are acutally supposed to run the car with the heater and blower on full untill the fan comes on twice. and do this with the rad cap turned open to the first notch, not off just opened. when the fan comes on the second time then you should be bleeding the system and closing up everything tight.
