My Engine Needs Help!

So... I went to centennial last night, turning out onto the main road, was very uneven i guess, and my front end smashed to the groad... got out and looked at the front and everything was good... lip was still intact so thought nothing of it.

Chilled there for a few hours and left...

One my way back home to cobourg, i got to just passed oshawa and my engine light came on. felt like a little jolt and definate power loss... since i was nowhere cloose to anything i just choose to cruise at like 60 as faar as i could... got to the cobourg off ramp and just left it in the lot...

there was one point where it was a pretty long uphill, and kinda felt like i wasnt gonna make it, but no rpm flux's, heat was intact, so i just continued...

then when i turned it off, popped the hood, a little burning smell, and sa little bit of smoke coming up from behind the engine, around the throttle body...

was dark but two cops were there, with flash lights, then i see this thin peice of metal and its pretty much jammed in this hole where my cms are that spin the belt

to the right, along the side of it there was a little hole that goes in

was a peice of metal there... i took it out, didnt feel like it was stuck or caught or anything but i know it shouldnt have been there... any ideas??

right now, it will not turn over.... it tries, and is about to, but its like it starts and stalls right away

Problems: Felt a jolt, and engine light came on.... Pretty much lost all power, but i was able to coast and keep my speed.

When I parked, popped hood and a bit of smoke coming from behind the engine, lookedl iek under the throttle body but that area.

Tried to start it up again, but wont turn over... Get's so close, and it's liek it does start, but stalls immediately and goes to battery...

Was 4 am in a parking lot so had no light, other then a flash light, and all that I could see out of the ordinary, was where the arrow points, on that side, pretty much directly the middle, left to right, top to bottom, in the middle theres a hole in the belt cover, and there was a thing peice of metal, looked like an L shaped tent peg or some **** in there... It wasnt stuck or anything, I pulled it out with no effort, so im not sure if that was the problem, but was the only thing I found while looking at it in the dark...

So right now its just sitting and wont turn over......

Well, hitting a bump in the ground/road isn't going to jam a piece of metal into your timing belt/cam gear area.

Sounds to me like whatever it is that happened, caused your timing belt to skip so your cams are out of spec. Its possible that piece of metal you pulled out is part of the spring or spring retainer clip for the timing belt tensioner...

Unscrew your oil cap and have someone crank the engine over while you look into the oil fill hole at your rockers and valvetrain...do you see them moving?

Do you have a pic of the piece of metal you pulled out? I'm wondering if you snapped your timing belt.

Update:

Midas called me back... I had it there, and they said they would look and see if the belt was good and if they could start it up, cause I didn't have any time had to run to toronto.... he said all the belts were fine tight etc, he could get it to start up, it idled fine, but wouldn't rev past 3500 and the engine light was on....

he said he got it to start up, idled fine, turned it off and then it wouldnt turn over again, keeps almost turning over but wont finish...

said something about the fuel filter looking original and might need to be changed....

any insight?

i told him to try and get it to be able to start, then i was gonna bring it to honda

No offense to the mechanics at Midas, but I laughed pretty hard at their "diagnostic"

Honda, will charge you way too much.

If you want some good mechanics to look at it for you, for a reasonable price, bring it by zeeman and my shop.

Possible a piece of metal from the tenstioner would be the only definet possibility and it the car wouldn't go past 60 means a couple things not enough fuel, too much fuel, weak or no spark, and or the timing is out but your mostlikely would have bent a valve. When was the last time you changed your distributor cap rotor and wires? Usually when the internal coil in the distributor goes the car will run once the coil cools down and shuts off once it gets hot that doesn't sound like your problem I would say. Get it out of Midas take it to someone who knows hondas most mechanics don't have a clue get them to put a timing light on it and see if it's okay then check all other stated options

HAHA...Mitas......

Sounds like the timing belt skipped a tooth on the cam(s). Since it does start, the t-belt is not snapped. The cam timing being off can cause it to not start, and/or start and run very poorly.

If you want to check this yourself: Remove the cam cover, crank the engine by hand to top dead center (tdc) for cylinder #1, the marks on the cams should both point straight up.

Otherwise, take it to Chris/Zeeman's shop.....not Mitas.

Was at midas, cause that's as far as I could get it without being scared of ****ing shut up, had no idea where anything was in cobourg, I asume their shop is nowhere near cobourg, so bringing it to them would cost more then anything in a tow... Either way, cost me 80 bucks, was the distributer, I'm sure I could have done it myself but had school and tons of next **** those 2 days so whatevers clever
