D series clutch swap info

I have a 2000 honda civic si, with a stock d16y8(non v-tec), I am just wondering if all D series clutch's fit the same. I am looking at buying an excedy oem clutch off someone who owns a 92-95 civic will this fit my car??

Well, the D16Y8 (the motor that comes in Si) has VTEC, first of all. If you don't then you have the D16Y7, which comes in the DX / CX / etc. Not sure why you would have that engine in there though..

But anyways, just look up the part number or whatever on their website to see what the application is. If it's 92-00 then you're good, but if it's 92-95 then it may not work. But 96-00 trannies are almost the same as the 92-95 ones.

the motor is definetely a d16y8 it says on the block but if it is a vtec shouldnt it say that on the top of the engine??? the pressure plate fits on newayz i tried it , the clutch disc is a half inch bigger on the older style clutch tho i think it should still fit tho.

see the little solenoid with wires that connect it to the dizzy? it"s hiding behind the valve cover on the passenger side by the intake manifold. That is your vtec solenoid. y8"s only say vtec if you have the Acura 1.6 El valve cover.

that's a false.

a cable d16 tranny's spline count is different from a hydro d16 tranny's spline.
so, not all d-series tranny will fit.

to the OP, in your case the clutch will fit.
since all 92-05 d-series clutch hydro tranny have the same spline count.

hope that helps.

What else is good to know is a lot of D17 parts including the clutch from 01-05 Civics and EL's will NOT fit older d-series either.
