gsr v-tec troubles

I have an 88 ef hatch with a gsr. Recently the motor has not alowed me to rev through v-tec. It will crack at 5500 however the car will not alow me to glide smothly through the higher rpms almost as if it is hitting rev limiter. The car is converted to obd1 however there is no led to read the engine code and no plug to short due to improper wiring. This is were my problem begins if anyone has any suggestions on how to attain the engine code or a solution as to which part is malfuctioning i would greatly appreciate it.

every car has a rev limiter, unless the ecu has been chipped and the rev limit was set to 10,000rpms.
You can add a MSD digital box, they usually have a user selectable spark cut (rev limit). Or have your ecu chipped and get it set to where ever you want on the chip.

The service connector on older (88-89) civics/CRX's is under the hood on the drivers side near the timing belt mount, its yellow connector. Its there, just not under the dash by the ecu like the 90-00 civics.
