Asked my mechanic about it already. He said he'll junk the motor for me, no extra charge. My engines got 250k on it. It's not worth anything. No one wants a D16 with that kinda mileage, not even the tranny. It's entirely stock so it's not even like I could sell an intake or anything.

That sounds MUCH better. I want a 98+ spec, not a 96 or 97, as I said, the final drive on the tranny for the 98+ is much better.

But what did you pay for that swap. Engine, everything said I done. looks like you might have done the swap yourself, I don't have that knowledge or the tools. Engine plus install, that'll get pricey. At least 8-10 grand...

Sounds like you found a good place to do the swap. I'm sure there are shops that would just take your motor no matter what the mileage. My buddy works with a guy that paid almost 6 grand for a GSR motor, Just the motor. They took his LS motor with like 120 on it gave him no money for it, and after all that the car ran like ****. This was about 5 years ago, at some butcher shop in Barrie.

Yeah, I refuse to let anything like that happen for me. That's why I've visited so many shops and did my research first. I tested the waters at abstrakt with a few basic things (my short shifter and bushings install, and an exhaust problem) and their service, knowledge and prices were unbelievable! I wont take my car anywhere else. Anton's the same probably. Mikey knows his ****.

If my motor had less mileage on it, I'd consider getting it back. I've had two people pm me about parts, so I'm going to ask him for those specific parts, but other than that, it's pretty much dead. Unless you want it =P

I've seen his swaps before, Mikey's the man. I'm glad you got yours done finally, now you just gotta get the quarters done before they fall off from all that rust when you're racin' with your new motor! =P
Sent you a pm, give me a shout.

Yeah, type r, definitely going with a fifth gear ls swap too. At 120km/h on the highway, a type r cruises at 4grand....oi the gas...
I cruised in a buddies ls last week, at 120km/h, we were at 2500rpm. I do a lot of highway travelling for work, so it's definitely worth it.

Somewhere down the road I'll turbo it and turn it into a show car, but that's WAY down the road.

I'd be fine if mine was like that now. When my speedo is BANG on 110km/h, my 5spd d16y8 is at 3100rpm. That's high for me..

i have a d16y8, 4sp auto. at exactly 120kmh, it's at 3 dead on locked 4th. that's already too much for me. your 5th should be overdrive too!

Right now im lookin at the B18 gsr, b20 with vtec head off b16 or b18. or... k. but k is just so damn expensive. i researched going turbo d, but my friend's are telling me my motor better be in perfect condition (which i dont think it is). sooo we'll see. still researching.

I've got a B18C5 which blew up the 1st time I tracked it at Dunville. Nearly $5.5k later I have a completely rebuilt motor.

Apart from having bad luck in terms of buying a bad B18C5 off of some guy here in T.O., the motor's totally worth it, although when you buy any used motor, you really never know what you're getting - whether it's from Toronto JDM, some guy that you meet on this site selling a swap, or a car with the swap already done. Personally, although I learned tons swapping the complete motor myself, I would have been better off buying a car that already had the swap as I spent way more than I thought I would have with all the extras you need (mounts, harness, etc).

Oh, and as for turbo, all the guys I know that have gone boost have gone bust - all broke (turbo's don't work and it costs them a fortune to keep trying to get their setups to work.

There's more than a few guys on here that will argue about the reliability of a turbo motor. Zeeman's motor has been boosted for years, and serves as his daily driver, and makes great power, on a relatively stock B16. It's all about good parts and a proper tune.

b20 with gsr tranny (find a jdm lsd unit if possible). way better torque and 87 octane. add some cheap 403s or better yet 404s. I've been through lots of setups and this one rocks....

Good move. Keep in mind that you must go with something greater than a stage 1 clutch if you boost it. And also stronger drive shafts.

b16 or lsv. hype r's are overrated and dont make that much power in stock form. most people seem to forget jdm-r trannies utilizes a 4.78 f.d. and lsd. the easiest way to improve acceleration is to swap out the f.d. a c1 with jdm r tranny will give a usdm c5 troubles becasue it produces torque faster, has a better f.d. and lsd, makes the same wtq and only 10whp less

Well I have owned Both a GSR swapped car and a Type R swapped car and I would go for the type R if you just want a good daily all motor car.if you wanted a boosted car I would recommend the GSR.

As for the cutting and modifying for the H22 and not being able to return to stock ,thats not the case at all only thing you have to cut is a small hole for shifter cables.

as for a B16 I wouldnt waste the money they make allot of noise but dont go anywhere fast.
