engine swap 94-1.6 into 00-si

Hello,
My 94 civic si was involved in a accident (major back end damage) it has a good 1.6 sohc engine,w/5speed trans.

I found a 2000 civic si car for sale, price is reasonable because it has a blown engine(2000 1.6). W/5speed.

Are they the same engine? If not will my 94 engine fit into this newer model si without to much modification?

Thanks,
Rick

your 94 civic si has a D16, and the 00 si has a odb2 b16 engine. Its actually illegal to put a older engine into a newer car, but it can be done...but difficult. Your 2 best options would be to

a. Get another 92-95 civic shell and use your motor for that
b. Get another b16 and put it in the 00 si.

or you could even get a b18 or b20 and put the b16 head on it to make it vtec.

Okay thanks for replying I.D
Are the D16 and B16 the same block?

Its actually not that hard to put a d16z6 into a 96-00 civic. Just some simple wiring (at least I think so) and re-using some old parts (mounts, injectors, alternator, tranny) and the engine will go in and run like a champ.

I can give you exact details on whats involved if you'd like.

"I.d.forget" you are slightly off. Its a 00 Si not sir. The 00Si has the d16y8 which is very similar except few minor differences.
You will need to use the EK harness since its one piece. Use obd2-obd1 jumper harness for ecu. I know for a fact that distributor plug is different. So you could just change the plug on it to allow harness to plug in or some people change internals of the dizzy but that's not needed.
There is 1 more sensor which I cannot remember at this time. Everything else should plug in. The transmission/mounts will work no problem.
If you want somebody to do the swap, I'm sure chris_v2 and zeeman could help you out.

im glad yall clarified si sir in america there lx ex dx, si has b16 no sir thats jdm to us! the motor in your older civic is identical to the si engine exept fot for the head having a combustion chamber simular to the integera gsr which is square not round, now all the accesories are differtn use the bare short block (head block) put the dist, alt, powersterr, all mounts and brackets from the si odbd2 the wiring and all, trannies are the same they both fit either chassis, so in the end you have the wirring harness trnny all accesories ac ps dizzy leave the ecu in the car also for painless no re wiring use the intake manifold and for yalls Etests use the exhaust manifold all from the newer car and use just the motor head,block......sounds like alot of work but its really easy and your gaskets and oil blah blah will be under $100

i'm almost positive that the obd1 d16z6 distributor will not fit the d16y8 head, so you'll have to use the d16z6 distributor and wire on an obd2 plug onto it (or wire the obd1 plugs onto your engine harness).

The alternator is different (3 wire d16y8 vs the 4 wire d16z6) so you can just re-use the d16y8 alternator. To keep it simple i'd re-use the d16y8 injectors (they're the same size as the d16z6, 240cc, but the clips are different). The IAT sensor is different, but all you'll have to do is re-use the IAT mounted in the intake tube from your d16y8 on the d16z6, or you can just wire on the round obd1 style IAT plug so you can use the intake manifold-mounted d16z6 IAT.

You could still use the obd2 ECU from the d16y8, but its pretty different from the d16z6 ECU. You could do like scrid3r said and convert to obd1 with a jumper harness and use a p28 (stock d16z6 ECU) which is a plug and play affiar. If you decide to use the d16y8 ECU you'll have to do the CKF bypass trick (super super easy) b/c the d16z6 engine does not use a CKF sensor like the d16y8 does.

I think thats about it if I remember correctly.
