Engine Swap...D15B into 92 HB DX
I have a stock '92 Civic DX HB. I'm not to fussy about power as I don't really drive fast anywayz. I was looking to swap in an Si engine (130 hp is good enough).
My car right now is automatic and I want to keep it that way. What specifically do I need to look for when looking to do this swap?
I've heard that I can still use the tranny I have but mainly I need the header and distributer along with the engine, as the stock ones will not fit a D15B.
Anyone else like to add to this?

Damn. We should talk more I am doing the exact same swap as you soon in a week or so and have Automatic too! Only difference is I have a 93 Civic DX HB, not 92. Anyways let's see...
Okay basically your asking about the JDM D15B. Basically you should be wise to keep your old motor through the swap process. You can end up using hardware from the old to place on the new if need be.
For the basic's you look for the engine, and ECU. There is a difference though. You have to decide whether you want to find a Ex/Si automatic tranny or keep your DX tranny to use (I am gonna keep the DX because there's not much difference or the justification in performance - just a few small seconds faster).
You can use your old header for a temp. use in the D15B but I would get a new one (the header has a O2 sensor at the left side). The distributor is a bit different. The one on the JDM D15B may or may not work. You can use the old D15B7 dizzy as a temp. replacement as well, it fits, just not snugly.
And again we should talk more! We are basically doing the same stuff...PM me!
Hopefully this helps!

If you buy a D15B motor, make sure you get it with the header, downpipe and distributor.. all problems solved.
SI engine is D16Z6, so figure out which one you are really gonna do. Either way both will require vtec wiring and a different ECU.
P08 for the D15B and P28 for the D16Z6.
Keep your DX tranny.
If your not interested in any more power, why not just swap a stock motor back in? Much simpler and should be cheaper.

Thanks for the replies guys.
So far, the average Si engine I've found goes for $400- $500 with 60000-65000 kms.
I really do appreciate all of your input. My mechanic only told me to make sure the engine comes with the header and distributer... that's it. I figured there had to be more to it.
My93Civic>>> I'll pm you with updates.... I'm doing my swap in the next 7 weeks.
