The good'ol D's are the way to go...
A b series engine is not that expensive. You can get a b18b for like 600 bucks complete and you can boost that also. So, why would I stick to D series. b18b with out a turbo is pretty good enough also. and you have way better torque than a stock D series and a lot more potential.

600$ for full swap from some random on forums...ok. then you get somebody to drive the motor from some guys garage to your shop of choice. ofcourse if you are smart you will decide to do water pump/timing belt on the b-series. so thats another 150$ in parts atleast. A proper install will run you about 500-600$ thats not too ghetto. so now you are at $1250-1350 atleast and you are installing a motor from some random you dont even know. ok sounds decent enough. i have a b18a1 with gsr tranny...yeah it goes but its still slow.
now i had plans of turbo'ing my old D, piecing everything together it costed me about 1400 that included all the piping/intercooler/14b turbo/manifold/3"dp/oil lines/gauges/bov etc...if you are smart enough you could install the kit yourself with the help of few friends. now stock d that was maintained can take 210whp no problem.
here is the thing. we are talking about whp not at the crank. all the b16s that are 160hp at the crank usually run 125-130whp on a good day lol. so what would be the point of spending approximatly the same money on a b-swap while you can piece together a turbo kit? and if you gonna say stock d is not reliable, then A. you obviously dont know that Zee tunes well and B. who gives a crap you can just buy another one for 200$ lol.

now who wants to bring up k-series? lol i'd be glad to rip on those too.

So you pride your self on spending 2500-5000 on a motor for a car you bought for 3000? Anyone can dump a big motor into a little car and make it go fast. It takes skill and knowledge to make a little motor scream.

And for the record i DONT work at timmies or macd's, I most likely made more then you last year. Being a Plumber/welder with a gas ticket in the union works well for me, and im not retarded and spend all my money on a car that at the end of the day is still a honda.

Sure if i wanted to i would put a k boosted in a pos then roll it around to gay car shows to show everyone how much money i wasted, maybe even put some cool stickers on it....ya now where talking.

race for slips??? i could use a new septic tank for my cottage.

just my 2cents.

oh and anyone that puts a wing on a car that cant go fast enough to make it work should be shot!!

you guys seem to be forgetting all of the supporting mods that go along with boosting ANY engine/car.

To boost a D you'll also need at least a stage 2 clutch (a good new one is roughly $400-700 depending on where you buy it) and a proper PCV/catch can setup, a 255lph fuel pump, bigger injectors, chipped ecu, conversion harness (if your car isn't already obd1) and tuning. All of this stuff that i've listed can easily run you $1500-2000 plus installation if you can't do it yourself.

Then what good is a civic with 200whp if it can't stop/handle well? No good, let me tell you. I've seen my fair share of civics with gobs of power that handle like a turd or stop like a stock civic (not good with that much power). So you'll also want a decent suspension setup and some better brakes (at a bare minimum better rotors and pads). Although, in my opinion, these are all things that should be done before ever boosting your car, but thats not always the case.

I'm not knocking boost in any way, hell, I daily drive my boosted civic year round.

Boost FTMFW !!!

Well you still drive a Honda!!!! Don't you? That is why you are here in the first place. and yeah! you made more than me last year, from tips serving those cups of coffee and donuts. LOLz hahahahha. Anyways if you want to stick with a D series than thats fine. All I want to say is I would rather go with a B series Cuz I can build my own **** and not over spend money on a D series. If you want I have a couple of D SERIES ENGINE that you would love to boost. lolz

nicely put zeeman. I was gonna say that, but for some reason it was going off topic. lolz It was all about budgeting a good decent swap and I guess people sometimes forget little things such as boost control etc etc.... I have boosted a k24 already and it was fun fun fun, but in the end I went back to N/A because I love hearing the sound of vtec when Im at shannonville doing my laps. And like you said, too much power is not good for the car because it will throw you off, specially when you're on a turn and when boost kicks in, it actually makes your car understeer. But anyways I guess people have their own preference on how they want to build their cars and in the long run they all pretty much have the same setup and maybe the same brand or whatever and how much money was spent. Thats just my opinion. Just having a little fun here at the forums. hahahah cheers and good luck with all your projects.
