1993 civic motor swap?

i recently bought a civic that i've done quite a bit of work to, its actually come a longg way. but its still not even close to being finished. i currently have a short ram intake and a short shifter on a stock D15B7, i added a down spout on the front under the bumper which takes air as i drive and shoots it directly into my short ram filter. it really makes a difference.

Besides that, im now beyond a D15b7 and im ready to go d vtech with a nicer tranny or small b series, i would just like to get some segestions and some prices, im a first timer in the civic game, i dont want to get screwed.

the current motor has 275 000
occasionaly runs boggy, and takes a while to warm up before it runs to its maximum efficiency. it does burn oil. alot actually. no black smoke or rotten smell though.

im really not happy and im tired of this motor. lol

just get a b18b1 and call it a day. it will be enough power for you for now.

otherwise d16z6 with si tranny will still be fun.

i guess i should have started with asking you what is your budget?

you can get a d15b swap for around $500-800 for the parts you'll need.

you can get a b16 swap for around $1500-2200 for the parts you'll need.

Labour to do an engine swap depends on what shop you go to and what exactly you're getting done, but expect to pay anywhere from $500-1000 for labour.

im lookin at anything from 500-2000 bucks installed and running! lol

i recently got my hands on a f22 but it was automatic so i was forced to get rid of it, i was told it would cost me more to change the tranny than anything! true stuff?

theres also a h22 at my school, its in a 93 prelude with the front end smashed in, up to the rad, so it should be running alright.(the car looks quick)

im just on the fence and unsure what to do, i hate my d15b7.

Well at my shop, to swap in another D-series engine, the price STARTS at $500. Thats if all you want to do is have me install the new engine/tranny.
If you want to replace the timing belt/water pump (which I highly recommend doing) there is an additional $50 labour fee, its so cheap to do because I'll replace it while the engine is out of the car and its quick/easy to do like that. I can also supply the parts if you'd like, but you'll have to pay extra for the parts.
If you want to replace the clutch (which is a good idea b/c you never know the condition of the clutch, theres an additional $50 labour fee, again its so cheap to do because I'll replace it while the engine is out of the car. I can also supply the parts if you'd like, but you'll have to pay extra for the parts.

If you want to do a B-series swap the price STARTS at $600 this is because there will be some wiring necessary.

If you want to do a H-series or F-series (not the f20/f22c aka s2000 engine) swap the price starts at $750 this is because there will be some wiring necessary and some extra fabrication for the shifter box/cables and engine mounts.

If you want to convert the car to obd1 (your car is already obd1 so this doesn't really apply to you) I can supply the ECU conversion harness and chipped obd1 ecu. I make the ECU conversion harnesses myself (in-house) and do all ECU modifications myself. I charge $100 for the conversion harnesses and $150 for the chipped ECU.

Now regarding your automatic question, you can definately use an engine from an automatic car, but you'll have to get a 5-speed tranny flywheel, pressure plate and clutch, along with 5-speed flywheel bolts (they're longer than automatic ones), pressure plate bolts, you'll also need a new clutch release bearing and flywheel pilot bearing. There can also be a little bit of extra wiring necessary to make everything work properly.

I personally am not a huge fan of h22 swapped cars, but for the money they're good bang for buck b/c of how much horsepower and torque the engines come with stock.

Check out my website for more information, or feel free to PM me with any questions you may have.

I highly suggest a B-series motor....b18 for sure.

Don't go with the H22...It was not made for the weight balance in a civic/integra. Plus, once you have the H-series mounts, you'll only have one choice for a motor. Whereas, with a B-series mounts youll have a choice of.....

Wait for it....

k so a friend of mine offered me a d16z6 last night 200 000 on it for $100! he was going to use it, but he has new plans now.. so i know it runs. he just doesnt need the motor. it comes with the alternator and power steering.

so what im wondering now is.. what will i need still? i have a good tranny in my 93 civic, (d15b7) clutch still has plenty of life. good gearbox, and short shifter. (which i love)

immediatly after i do the motor im looking for suspension.. suggestions? lol

lsd tranny one day!

oh young grasshopper just go see the zeeman, he'll set you up real nice.

your going to spend more on a lsd tranny for your d then you would get for your hole car.

I bought a jdm d15b vtec and did the swap myself (my first on too ) it was $800 as a complete and came with the super ballin LSD tranny, i went to zeeman to wire up vtec after that called it a day and as soon as spring hits it will be boosted. I guess you could say Im a d boy lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJqI1dYn4fg

indeed, but my boosted d will spank a n/a b16 for sure lol. And it sounds alot better to not as ricey with a turbo stuffed under the hood.

It all about budget. all you guys who swapped to the b dont have money left for boost, and all those who keep there d's are running boost.

Im sure i'll get bored with 300whp and get a b someday but for now im a dman, and not that crappy rap video ether lol.

you can use the stock d15b7 clutch/tranny but honestly its not really worth putting a vtec engine in with the super long geared DX/CX tranny, I would use the SI tranny if you want the most performance out of your car.

d series are for people who works at timmies or mcdonalds and can't afford a b or a k series. hahahahaha

^^ wow...B or K ?
well i cant hate on B-series since i got one, but when i had the civic i was proud of the D-series. people would look at my motor and laugh since it looked so small. yet when i'd take em for a spin they would be surprised. there is a lot of potential out of a d-series. and if you have a reliable/well maintained d-series, it would be cheaper/same price to go boost rather than go b-series.
now ofcourse you can say that if you boost a b-series, you'll be quicker. duhh but then with the money you spend swapping the b and getting the turbo for it, you can build the d-series. so in the end i would much rather have a small 1.6sohc fully built with a nice snail on it, spanking all b-series.

but thats just me...

Oh and forgot...K-series? for the price of the motor/parts/labour you could get build a d-series and boost it...AND have money left over for suspension haha.

The good'ol D's are the way to go...
