Street Legal Licence LED's?

I've been looking recently for some replacement bulbs for both my interior Dome light, and also the liscence plate lights on the rear of my car.

I've been able to find a couple of lights that would work, and in various colours. One of the items I'm interested in is a Blue LED (click here) in the link provided.

I've heard before, though, that blue lights on the outside of the vehicle are illegal in Ontario. Is there any truth to this, or would I be alrite to get these blue LED lamps for my licence plate.

If they are illegal, would red lamps be alrite to use for this? Im assuming so as brake lights are red as well.

Thanks in advance for any answers you guys can provide me with.

Cheers.

red would be fine on the rear of the vehicle...but but to illuminate the license plate they should be white or it can be argued that that red doesnt efficiently illuminate the plate at night thus leading to a ticket...and its NO on the blue

Thanks for the quick response. I figured it would be a no on the blue.

Cheers.

Heh, I've noticed those blue lights when I've driving in the Etobicoke area.

I'm figuring blue lights are reserved for any government/public service vehicles, and are therefore illegal on vehicles that aren't.

Yeah that was my understanding that the blue lights are reserved for government vehicles. Thus, snowplows, salt trucks, and TTC vehicles running the blue line have them and we can't.

i know you CAN get white leds for it, but i'm not sure where they are sold.

Don't bother with any other colour. the highway traffic act specifically requires that you have a WHITE light on the licence plate, and no, you can't use blue anywhere else unfortunately... you can have a GREEN light on each side, if your length is right, which is kinda weird... but as far as i know you can have as many amber lights on your car as you want..

if you want to get those valve stem caps that light up when you drive fast, get them in amber, and you are legal. and probably a lot safer than other cars on the road.

heh i am tempted to get those even though they are so pointless and lame.

/\/\/\ yea white is the only light allowed to luminate the licence plates. blue are for government vehicles, green to tends to be markers on trailers, and ambers are allowed.

I'm lookin for led interior dome light too.

You're allowed i believe to have interior lights as long as they are out of the drivers and other motorists view.

The blue lights on the TTC buses are meant to tell people that it's a kneeling bus. Buses w/o the blue lights do not kneel.
