Question Opinion need for buying a car

Do you think 140K on a 1999 Sir is worth buying? THe guy is asking 15k for it. The car is in mint condition though. I just think the milage might end up haunting me after a few months.

The kilometers are really high. Ask him for service records if you are considering it. Has the timing belt been done?

No the timing melt hasn't been done. I've got my machanic (honda machanic) to take a look. He said the engine runs fine. Everything is ok but the brake rotors. He said they need to be machined or something.

Depending on where he works and where he lives, that might not be over driven. If for example, he took the 407 to and from Mississauga from Oshawa, then the 140 kms might be a bit misleading... On the other hand, the car could have been just driven and abused a lot.

I would just test the engine out, take it for a spin etc.. and work from there.. If you still don't trust him, take it to a mechanic or get some tests done on the engine..

If you do buy the car remember that the timing belt will need to be done, as it should be done at around 100k. This is a really important piece of service because if that belt goes you are seriously screwed. As for brakes that is regular wear and tear, not to worry, and machining them is really cheap.

As Shokker said, if that 140k was put on with highway driving it is not too bad. Plus it is not unreasonable, I should be at about 120k after 3 and a half years.

Is this a private sale?? When I go back to work on Monday, I'll check the black book value on the car for you, it's the guideline that the Ministry uses. You can also buy the history package for the vehicle from the Ministry, it will tell you how many owners, if the car has a lean on it, and if it has had any fender benders.

Iagree with Import Racer, why buy something with such high mileage and high insurance rates when you could go for something like a sedan , and then swap the motor out with the money you save on the car and insurance. What a coincidence, I'm selling a sedan that's stock , with ONLY 28,000 kms on it.

I won't buy it unless they can prove regular maintenance was done on it.

Oil every 5000KM, stuff like that. Mind you 15 K is kinda low price for a SIR.

I'm starting to have doubts too. I checked the black book and it says it's work 15g's if it was in mint condition (with avg Kilometers too) Oh well.

Trick to buying used it to not fall in love with any car, I almost bought a black del Sol Si (D16) with no air. Then I found the car I have now.
THing is, even if I passed up on the one I have now, I could have got another, I thought my find was really rare but I just say another black del Sol VTEC, same year and less KM.

Point: don't fall in love with a used car you are thinking about buying.

Thats true. Good point. It's my first car so i'm kind of anxious about getting one. I can't wait any longer. I guess I waited 20 years for one, a couple of months won't hurt anymore.

*Thinks again*

No it still hurts. Oh well!
