newsgroups...which ones?

Dont know if anyone is still using or has used news groups but was wanting to know what are some of the good groups out there.

I'm looking for groups for the following stuff:

DVD movies - actual dvd rips
applications
ps2 games
chinese movies - actual dvd rips if possible
anime

Currently I have:
alt.binaries.cd.image.playstation.dvdiso
alt.binaries.dvd
alt.binaries.moives.divx
alt.binaries.dvd.anime

you should just use a newsgroup search engine like
www.nfonews.com

A lot of people I know pay for a special newsgroup search engine and you don't have to keep updating the newsgroup everytime you want something new. You just search for what you want and download! No need to upload all the threads in the group. its amazing.

Basically your ISP or newsgroup services stores files/messages on a server. You can then upload or download to or from the any given newsgroup on the server. Think of it kinda of like napster but instead of dling files from individual computers everything is on high speed servers. There are servers all across the world and each pretty much retains all the same data.

Thanks for the link, very helpful.

Theres a search built into the program i'm using but i was just wondering if anyone knew of groups w/the things i was looking for.

I would love something with high completion rates that's updated often.

if u use sympatico they dont have a newsgroup server that's working and roger's one is REALLLLY slow. I used to use the rogers one till it got screwed over.

Rogers no longer offers newsgroups. You must subscribe to 3rd party provider.

Yeah rogers stop offering newgroups awhile back, because i believe they did a partnership with giganews.

anyway, with these isp (sympatico/rogers), they deleted most part or some parts so you couldnt download.

http://www.giganews.com

i believe thata the best one out there. anyone know of another? i might sign up!

They only did a "partnership" with giga because they were introducing VoIP. So they couldnt have people like me taking up all they precious bandwidth.

Try this one: www.powerusenet.com

works out to be ~$17 CDN. You get unlimited download and speed is capped at whatever you have. Also get 4 threads.

if you dont mind me asking but who are you with and how much??

And personally i only use 3 threads at the most. I have tried to have all 4 threads but for some reason it just seems slower.
