Need help & advice... buying used notebook (MAC)

I just got informed by my cousin that her friend can get a deal out of a used MAC laptop. She knew I wanted one so asked me... I am very interested, however I have no clue about laptops and macs. It would be nice if you give me some tips & advice to get a good buy.

So far I got from a friend
Check LCD to make sure no dead pixels (load up white bakckground)
Test each key of the keyboard
Adapter plugs in snuggly and works
Test how long battery last after a full charge

For any more info, just ask and I'll try to get more on monday. So far I know its used, a mac, and equivalent to a P3 800 series.

Why would you buy a mac?... especially a laptop mac.. Laptops are good because of their network capabilites.. like plug and play to other computer/ internet connections... Buy something IBM compatible, you will get more use out of it and have less headaches...

Only reason id understand somone buying a mac would be for their graphic design capabilites...

Just check over all the laptop is in good condition. I suggest try to get a new laptop if possible. Stick with IBM (I would say dELL but im not to happy with their CS). If you into video /graphics then look at macs. You can get a really nice one for under $2000. Just my two cents.

Since you didn't say which mac laptop I can't comment really. My buddy has a mac laptop and it's pretty good. not the fastest..but it does the job. No internet/network problems when connecting into my router. It accesses the net automatically. Filesharing..thats another story.

If you don't end up getting that notebook, I would suggest any noteboot with the Intel centrino chip. Acer makes a good notebook as well as Toshibia. Centrino get the best battery life and the built in wi-fi is a bonus.
