Need advice please. Buying my first civic

Okay I got around $5,000 to spend on a civic.. I heard I should get a year 2000 since their transmission don't have issues..
I want a newer civic thats going to be cheap and easy to mod, I want to performance mod it and cosmetic.

Any suggestions for me?
Thanks!

Some of the newer Civics have had transmission issues (01-05 autos, 06-08 6sp), but Ive never heard of any issues with the 96-00 Civics.

For $5000 you could easily find a very nice 99-00 Civic. I would suggest an Si because they have more options like power windows/locks/mirrors/roof/ac/abs

Somebody lied to you!! Trannys are like butter in civic's pre-2000.
My only advice is make sure its certified and e-tested.

Manual is simple to drive, a day to learn and a couple weeks to master. Or you could learn on a farm tractor or bike. :P
