I think broading your view finder will help in the hunt ....

see IT and programming is just a small part of the larger computer and electronics field....

I guess you can say I work in IT since I'm responsible for how the switches at bell mobility route phone calls.... but I work with a technology that was around before the words IT and is older then the world wide web....

saying IT narrows the window down to just the cutting edge stuff... and programming ... there used to be those sorts of jobs at Bell but now ... everyone in operations can write programs and tools .... it's a small part of the over all job.... we only have a staff of 3 or 4 programmers in a staff of 160+ employees all they do is make the large apps....

me I know 15+ programming languages and interface structures... do I do programming all the time? nope just when it simplifies my job...

ohhh and Bell mobility is currently not hiring outside the bell family

Just because one has gone through school does not guarantee anyone a job. It's call building a network and taking jobs to get experience....sometimes it means taking a job with crappy pay to get the experience.
There is jobs out there and in fact the market is improving, but I suspect that the job one is expecting to find with the pay they expect is not out there right now....for the person asking the question.

I guarantee you there is plenty of jobs in the IT industry if you have the experience and the know how.

If you don't unfortunately you have to pay your dues and get the experience needed. I get plenty of calls for jobs with AIX and WebSphere experience both for Ontario and state side....

The days of saying 'I know windows' and getting an 80K job are forever gone.....sorry to say.

Like garther asked....have your resume on monster, workoplis, job shark etc....personaly monster gets me the most hits.

How many jobs have you applied for and are you being realistic in what you are applying for?

Not to sound like a *****....but just asking the hard questions.

Good luck with your hunt....it will happen if you continue looking hard

well said! The tech industry has its ups and downs. I think this phase is one of its downs. I think one of the reasons I tried really hard for co-op, was so that I won't run into this problem after I graduate.

send resumes to at least 10 different companies everyday

but here's how to really kick off your employment hunt call someone in the business .... talk to them ask them if you can send them your resume and ask them for 2 other contacts you could try... have questions prepared and be ready to call back at a more convenient time....

that process is called networking and you can easily have a job in less then 2 weeks and a ton of contacts to use for future prospecting.....

god that reminds me it's almost time to go a job hunting .... (once I can get a pension here I'm moving on....)

and for the record I sent out 100 resumes before getting my first interview which I got from a wedding I was at .... yes thats right 100 resumes and I got an interview when I went to a wedding and met a guy in the business .... sent my resume off and got an interview... I had 3 interviews in total... and 1 job offer....

the 1 job offer I got was because that was the only one I placed a follow up call for .... I guess you live you learn eh? and pay was terrible to start with 36K and year ... I'm soooo glad it's been boosted since then.... and boosted well....
