What's The Big Deal About Synthetic Oil?

Over the last 20 years or so, I've run across synthetic oils at the places where I got my oil changed. I always thought it was just "very good" oil, and put it in occasionally if I felt flush at the time. The guys at the garage really didn't know anything about it, other than that it was expensive. Even now, when I talk to garage folks, the average guy working on your car seems to have a pretty limited knowledge of the characteristics and benefits of synthetic lubrication. It really wasn't until I started doing the research about syn oils that it finally kicked in!!!

If you don't feel like reading the rest of this, here's the conclusion ....

SYNTHETIC OIL WILL MAKE YOUR ENGINE PERFORM BETTER, LAST LONGER, AND REQUIRE FEWER REPAIRS ... AND ... SAVE YOU MONEY

The benefits of synthetics include:

Cooler Operation- cooler engines resist stress and wear.

Engines Stay Clean- synthetic oil resists the formation of sludge, varnish, acids, deposits and other degradation products.

Consistent Viscosity- this means easier cold starts and better high and low temperature protection - take out a quart of synthetic on the coldest winter day - it will pour like it's at room temperature - try synthetic transmission fluid ... you'll really understand the difference when you make you first shift on a cold winters day ..

Superior Friction Reduction- isn't that what lubrication is supposed to be all about? ... this means less wear; smoother operation, better gas mileage.. means more hp!!!

Extended Service Life- whether or not you choose to take advantage of it, Asmoil can give you a service life of up to 35,000 miles between oil changes ... actually, if you want to go the "full monty", with a bypass filtration system (often used on the big rigs, but also available for cars, trucks, etc) the filtration is so effective it literally keeps the oil clinically pure, extending the oil life almost indefinitely ... I'm talking like 600,000 miles!!

Reduced Oil Consumption- synthetics will not break down in the heat and resist evaporation from heat because of much lower volatility than dino oils - better oil flow also gives better fuel economy.

In a nutshell, you're going to get the absolute best performance from your machine, it will last an impossibly long time, and you'll be saving money through fewer repairs, better gas mileage, and extended oil life!!

In my world (as distorted as that may be at times) it's a no brainer. Some folks might say "Hey, it's just a Honda! You're wasting your money."

Yeah, but, IT'S MY HONDA!!!! For my family car that cost me maybe $25,000, that's one hell of an investment, and I don't mind spending a couple of extra bucks to significantly reduce wear and tear. I want it to last me a LONG, LONG time.

If you're a tuner, you're investing what? two, three, five grand or significantly more to make your car the best? Why would you wimp out and just use dino??

Now don't get me wrong. Honda engines are the finest quality, and if you give it the service indicated by Honda it's going to give you great service for a long, long, time.... but, I think (again, just my humble opinion) ... that the edge you can gain from using a high quality synthetic, in terms of power, performance and protection is well worth it.

If you haven't tried synthetics in your ride, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

Cheers
