LMFAO. You can get snow tires for under $300 that are good one's. It's good to know your safety is sooooo imported to you, that your so cheep and will not spend money on your safety of you or others, that pretty sad on your part. When can afford them get them.

I couldnt stop laughing after just reading the first few posts

Snow storm takes over the city, and you guys turn into stupid retarded race car drivers in your POS civics.
I hope while you're tryin to beat the next SC430 you lock your tires up making a corner and slide into the ditch. Writing your cars off.

Plus to the guy who mentioned snow tires should be mandatory in Ontario, I do second that
Also something else that should be mandatory, A course on winter/snow driving
Too many people go into retard mode when driving out in this white wonderland.

I wouldn't necessarily make snow tire mandatory, but I would do it this way - if you're involved in a collision or even just stuck/sliding/spinning on the road in icy or accumulated snow conditions, and you don't have proper snow tires with adequate tread on them, you get a ticket for operating an unsafe motor vehicle and that vehicle is immediately towed and kept in impound until the roads are cleared again.

That way you have a choice of whether to buy snow tires or not. Of course that choice to not buy snow tires also means that you have chosen to not drive when the roads are icy or have snow accumulations on them.

I'm not saying everyone should go 80 everywhere all the time. I'm saying when you're on a straight stretch of road and your the only car there, there is no reason to go way below the limit unless visibility is crap and there are 2 foot snow drifts blowing across the road.

You have to use your common sense. Obviously if there is someone of front you, you can't just go as fast as you want. You can't go any faster than them unless you can pass them safely. If the car in front of you is the only other car on the road and there is nobody in front of them, there is no reason they can't go the limit if the road is snowy but the visibility is good.

I'm so glad that I had the foresight to buy this car, and buy the winters for it instead of trying to brave the winter in my G35. I know some people feel that all seasons are manageable, but I'm certain that the majority of people in the ditch or the ones bumping into other cars are running all seasons. You're definitely not invincible with winters, but they make such a difference, and for the money, it's good to have every possible advantage.
I got mine for only 280 installed, because I'm running 165/80R13. It's also wise to get skinny tires like that, as they cut through the snow and slush more easily, and they're a lot cheaper too.

Most importantly drive safe everyone, and happy holidays!

*incase it wasn't obvious enough, this wasn't a thread about a race*
280 is good, may I ask where and what tires?

Well first of all it's not 400 it's less than 300, and it's not like you're wasting the money on the tires because as as you use these for 4-6 months of the year, your all season/summer tires would have to be replaced often (as has been pointed out several times in this thread). So it's kind of stupid to complain about dropping the money on them since after the initial investment it all works out to the same thing....

Actually, my tires (just the rubber) were about $800 after tax. I am very happy with my investment, especially after this snowstorm. And believe me, the car I drive NEEDS the best snow tires money can buy.

I don't think it should be a law, but I highly recommend that everyone gets them. And for those who dont, enjoy getting stuck in a ditch

Snow tires should be mandatory in Ontario.
Who mentioned going 40 in an 80?

Age matters when a moron is racing in the winter on public street and bragging about it on a forum. Age obviously matters or the government wouldn't bother imposing restrictions.

Unless you were pretty much right up beside each of there cars, its hard to tell which are running winters. I'm not refuting the fact that lots of people with winter tires drive like they are invincible, but I call BS on that 8/10 observation.

Most accidents I see are a result of excessive speed with or without winter tires. When you drive winters through the snow, you realize how much difference they make. Whether you want to spend money on them or not is up to the driver, but ultimately its better to be equipped imo.

I sell winter tires...I've sold thousands already this year...I can spot them fairly easily...I will not debate that they are better for this kind of weather cuz they are but too many people drive like douchebags just because they have them and end up in the ditch, in a snowbank, or causing a collision... and the 8/10 that I saw this weekend is no exaggeration...hell I saw another one this afternoon in a snowbank cuz they took a corner too fast

It's all common sense people.

Drive accordingly to the conditions. Whether you have snow tires or not. Simple.

Nobody did. But someone did say "going 80 in snow is stupid" which it is not, depending on the situation and the severity of the conditions.
