Smoked an SC430 today
Poor guy didn't have winters on his car, he was just stuck at the light for the longest time, back end swaying side to side. When he finally got going, he wouldn't dare go anything past 30, while I was bombing it down the road at 80 (in an 80, don't speed in snowstorms, that's just silly). I'm so glad that I had the foresight to buy this car, and buy the winters for it instead of trying to brave the winter in my G35. I know some people feel that all seasons are manageable, but I'm certain that the majority of people in the ditch or the ones bumping into other cars are running all seasons. You're definitely not invincible with winters, but they make such a difference, and for the money, it's good to have every possible advantage.
I got mine for only 280 installed, because I'm running 165/80R13. It's also wise to get skinny tires like that, as they cut through the snow and slush more easily, and they're a lot cheaper too.
Most importantly drive safe everyone, and happy holidays!
*incase it wasn't obvious enough, this wasn't a thread about a race*

Wimps.
There is nothing wrong with going normal speed in snow with a good set of snow tires, as long as you leave extra space between you and the car in front and you give lots of room to slow down and slow down early at stop signs and lights.
Going 40 in an 80 in snow on a straight stretch of road does nothing but slow me down, I'm sorry. It's not necessary to go that slow.
Snow tires should be mandatory in Ontario.

I second that. doing 80 isn't going to cause you to do anything but do 80. that is assuming that everyone around you can drive. or if your alone. I drive like everyone around me is an idiot tho, btu in toronto that's usually true. I like rick mercers rant on winter tires. snows make your car better in the snow. alot of money and engineering went into them. face it even if your micheal shumacher you put wet tires on if it's not dry out, no? as for saying money is an issue BULL SH*T sorry man buy snows and don't drive on your summer tires makes your summer tires last that much longer so really you save money right there. also the damage that could happen to your car that you could have prevented by having good tires. your car modified? your insurance know this? cuz if not, guess what. YOUR NOT COVERED. snows are a solid investment in your car. that and when you are the idiot spinning your tires trying to get moving when the light turns green your slowing everyone down. they become impatient, then they catch your stupidity and speed up, and crash. hopefully into you or some other moron on "all seasons" and not a van full of innocent kids on the way to hockey practice.

if snow tires ever became mandatory in ontario I would be gone...I'm not dropping 400bucks or more for a month worth of snow tire worthy weather...unless the government were to pay half of associated costs then screw that nonsense

I assume you meant "can't" lol But yeah, I finally bought a set of winters this year, huge difference. BTW, if you get snow tires, I know that with Belairdirect you get a discount on your premium as well. Well worth the investment I think.

+1, someone spun out in front of me last night, lets just say that if I was doing 80 I wouldn't be here right now. yes I trust my skills to do 80 when there are no other cars on the road, but with other people you never know what to expect.

Can't afford snow tires?
Buy some used ones. You can find a decent set for dirt cheap if you know where to look. Also new ones are not that expensive if you know where to look. You don't need to buy the most expensive snows to get really good performing snow tires. I bought mine from walmart. They are Nexen Wingard231's size 175/65R14. They are $64 a piece new.
There are ways to get them cheap. And since your using your summer tires for several months less, they will last longer, same with the snows, they should last you at least 3 seasons+. Cynikal.Mindset, 1 month of snowy driving eh??? That means this winter by now the snow should be melting and we should all put our summer tires back on.....yeah ok.
The reason they make all season tires is to make money. People see "all season" and think they are good in all seasons. The fact is they are too comprimised in their design which makes them ok on wet and dry pavement but most are garbage in the snow and ice. I'm speaking of course about your standard crappy tire cheap all season tires. Some are better than others. For example Falken tires makes the ziex 512 which is in fact an all season tire. Other companies make similar tires to the 512 and call them all season tires (though I don't know why). They are excellent performers on dry and wet pavement, but completely useless in the snow.

I'm not saying everyone should go 80 everywhere all the time. I'm saying when you're on a straight stretch of road and your the only car there, there is no reason to go way below the limit unless visibility is crap and there are 2 foot snow drifts blowing across the road.
You have to use your common sense. Obviously if there is someone of front you, you can't just go as fast as you want. You can't go any faster than them unless you can pass them safely. If the car in front of you is the only other car on the road and there is nobody in front of them, there is no reason they can't go the limit if the road is snowy but the visibility is good.
