If you have not been charged as yet, you probably won't be, but insurance may still view this as an at-fault accident.

In any case, sorry to hear about your accident.
You were both charged in your scenario.

In GunMetalsi's scenario, only the other driver was charged.

Generally, it's better not to claim it and just sell off parts from it, and put it towards a new car. Even if it's a writeoff. But if you can't afford to do that, then you're in a position of not having any other choice but to claim it, take like $9-10K that the insurance co gives you. Stip the car as much as you can before you claim it, like rims and whatnot... change it back to stock.
I doubt he'll get that much B. I would take a guess and say $6500-$7000......maybe a bit more if the KM's are low.

it's a 98 Si... you don't think $9K I'd be fookin furious if they offered me $6.5K and then told me to pay $300/month for the rest of my life for insurance.

Keep it, get a loan, transfer parts... from this to new Civic... sell remaining parts... like interior and whatnot... if you have an armrest, I'll take it... strip it to a shell, send the body to scrap metal yard after pulling whatever off. Lemme know what you decide to do.

Ughhh...Id like to keep the car and have it fixed if possible...since Ive spent SOOOO much on it...but unfortunately it looks like a writeoff...insurance wont look at it till thursday or friday.

what are you saying bruno? hrmmm...just to complicate things further...let me add this...

THE CAR IS FINANCED!

hehe, im a little more than one year into a 5 year finance. sooo i dont know whats gonna happen...this is another reason id like to keep the car...if i lose it its too much work arguing with the finance company and even more work getting another car.

grrrrrrrr

Sorry to hear that happened. If something ever happened to my civic, i would be lost. Actually, I would then just drive my Protege5 around, but still.. it would be a sad day.

Sean, what I'm saying is... IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT:

interest rates are low... get a line of credit/car loan (ask your parents to cosign if need be) for about $10K. IF you never make a claim, insurance won't tell the finance co the car is gone. Continue to make payments on it as if nothing happened. Out of the line of credit buy a 6th gen hatch or coupe. Transfer all parts you have on your car from one to the other. Sell off remaining parts to make back part of the loss. Once it's down to a shell, sell the whole thing to a wrecker for scrap metal.

Other option with the line of credit is to have the front end pulled and fixed... including kit, all required parts, labour and paint, you are looking at about $5K... but you have to source the parts yourself. Make sure you get a top notch shop to do the work, else your car just won't be the same ever again. It's entirely possible to have it all done.

Key is not to get insurance involved if you can...

HOWEVER!!!! Both my bro and I were on the same policy and we both had pretty big claims in a 6 month span. Both our cars were hit in parking lots causing quite a bit of damage. These were hit-and-run accidents so we had to pay the deductables, but our insurance hasn't increased. So... the key is to speak to you agent, and find his recomendation. I mean, insurance is there for a reason. Your agent will tell you what will happen in the future, but be sure to GET QUOTES for him for your next renewal period, and decide based on that. The other guys insurance will cover your deductable, so you shouldn't have to shell out ANY money.

So you have three options: two of not going to insurance, and one of having the car totalled. IMO, I would strip it to stock, and have the insurance co total it. Tell them it took the adjuster 4 days to show up, and in the mean time thiefs have been picking at my wreck So save all the parts, and just take the money.

In spite of not being charged, unfortunately the insurance company can still consider you at-fault in an accident though.

Ill let you guys know what happens eventually...bbarbulo i like option 3...strip the car and let insurance take it. I think thats whats gonna happen. however...my uncle has a body shop and i feel confident that he can pull the chassis straight and redo the whole front end/rad support.

yo shawn u can profit from this accident.
play it smart.
this is wat u do.
if the car is a write off then negotiate wit the agent and DO NOT agree to sign off the car. wat u do is accept watever amount they give u (if its reasonable) but u tell them that u want the car back cuz ur loosin out on money n ****. they will say oh u can buy the car back from impact n **** tell them NO!
tell them that u want to keep the car and u have no time to do all these hasslin around bs. ask to speak to a supervisor if need be and tell them u dont want to settle unless either they give u more money or they give u the car back in return by reducin some money off ur write off cheque (this is legally possible).
most likley they will reduce like 5 bills of the final amount they planned on givin u for the car.

then take the write off cheque and either u can fix the car or u can use that money to pay some money off on ur finance.
this way ur finance doesnt have to be terminated early and u get to keep ur car and maybe even supe the **** outta it.

remember i work at a bodyshop i kno a thing or two about insurance now

Just some experience from lil ol me.

I stacked my eg a month ago into a Merc 4x4, front ender, written off by the insurance company.

They gave me £2k for the car, i bought it back for £300, and did the repairs myself. Had to drill off the front panel, new bonnet, lights, a/c, wings etc. Took me a week, but only cost me £700, including CF bonnet, and projector lights. So i made a quick £1k!

If you can do the work urself, buy the car back and go to work. I had no experience at all before starting, but you learn quickly

Car drives fine now

yah do not accept the offer the insurance company gives you if you write it off, they usually lowball the first offer all the time.

sorry to here about the accident. I hope you are ok. A couple of years ago i was in the same situation, and the guy that hit me got ****. I called my innsurance company and told them. they had the car towed towed to to there (quote) repitable body shop and had the damage apraised. they said it could be fixed. when i went over there to sign all the paper work they told me some stuff went missing, from my car. when i mean stuff i meen rims tires seats stering wheel hood and motor. I called the cops and my inssurance company and even produced reciepts for all the stuff the owner of the shop showed us paper work that was sent to the inssurance company stateing that they are not responsable for any cars inside the impond lot. so what i am saying is if you go that route strip all the mods off you car then send it in, but you should call them anyway because they might bitch that you haven't called. good luck man hope it all works out
