check the 1/4 panels for rust/bondo

a car that old should have the suspension fully checked for bad ball joints/tie rods, etc.

you don't want those snapping on you on the highway.

For my personal experience with 4th gens, check for leaks in the weather stripping. Look into the spare tire area for puddles, etc.

lift the carpet. check 1/4 panel. check rocker panels.
check trunk where the spare tire is.
if its an Si. check the sunroof for leaks.

if the guy is honest he'll tell you wahts wrong with it in terms of body.
if he's not check those parts.
very key, as they are prone to getting rust

bring a magnet to check for bondo, make sure the timing belt and water pump have been replaced, and ask if hes repaired any suspension pieces.

make sure body is not bondo'd. check spare tire spot to see if there's water or rusted. check rockers and check underbody to see if there are rots. car that old are prone to rust and rots. just make sure the body condition is good.

suspension like tie rods, balljoints is not expensive but can cause big trouble. get it replace if possible.

in terms of engine, if its already a b16, make sure the timing belt and water pump has been replace.

unless you're getting the car for a sweet price, otherwise, check it very carefully to see if its worth the big $$$

if the price is really sweet... if the body is close to mint, its worth picking it up and do the maintenance like new timing belts/waterpump, tierods, balljoints, winter maintenance like flush the rad, oil change, brake bleed, flush the tranny system, new clutch fluids, all those never hurts. and make sure you check the battery has enough life for winter

hey man..yea im getting the car from a friend for $1000 after i sell off mine.. looking to heal from the expenses crunch my current car put me under..so my friend offered his car for when im ready..cheap on gas..nimble, needs minor work and the front end was just repainted.. probably a few bumps and hits here and there but the body can wait for the spring summer..im mostly looking for a a to b kinda car for now..but i also am one to enjoy what i drive..so body work might come into play. But i dont think id do more than get rid of rust and try to simply rejuvinate the current paint.. car isnt really worth more $$$$$ being invested.
