EG CX hatch questions

i am upgrading from a 88 DX hatch to a 92 CX hatch and the car comes with a 130hp ZC DOHC engine...which is a good thing...

however .the seller told me it comes only with the stock CX transmission

i haven't really test drove the car yet because it has no plate and it is getting the body work fixed

but i have looked around the web and found CX has a very bad gearing compare with the DX and even more with the Si

92-95 Civic CX/VX D15B8/D15Z1
1st 3.250 2nd 1.761 3rd 1.066 4th 0.853 5th 0.702 R 3.153 Final 3.250

92-95 Civic DX/LX D15B7
1st 3.250 2nd 1.762 3rd 1.172 4th 0.909 5th 0.702 R 3.153 Final 4.058

92-95 Civic Si / 93-95 del Sol Si D16Z6
1st 3.250 2nd 1.900 3rd 1.250 4th 0.909 5th 0.750 R 3.153 Final 4.250

so do the CX and VX shares the same tranny? I really want to upgrade this to Si if the gearing sucks like that...even my DX hatch with 92hp would smoke this thing then

those are U.S specs, Canadian CX is the same as the U.S DX, comes with the D15b7. An si tranny would def be better.

^--- +1 CX in Canadia is D15b7

What you'll get is a tranny with long gears. If you want faster accel, you can switch transmissions, but you won't really find it that big a deal. Long gears = higher top speed and better mileage. If you wanna worry about being quick off the line, get a faster motor. The cost of a new transmission (300-500) is a little bit of a waste if you don't have something special in mind (ie, LSD, custom gears, etc).

thanks

so can anyone confirm which transmission for the CX? the 1st one or the 2nd one?

and for those who have tachometer, what is the rpm for the CX tranny at 100km/h? my DX reads about 2750rpm with a 11lb flywheel

my transmission is labelled s20. its a long gear ratio so with my JDM motor, i can do 110km/h in second gear.
