Digital Capacitor Questions?

hey ive got a digital capacitor installed in my car, and i just wanted to know something... when i turn the ignition just to power on for the system etc, the capacitor does not turn on (digital display does not light up) the only time the cap turns on is if i turn the car ON....is that how its sapposed to be or no? ive got main power going into cap than power from cap to amp...and main ground going into cap than from cap to amp....is this wrong or correct?

help me out thanks...

Added OCT 11

found another thing that's wierd 2day...

went to the movies tonight, so i turned off the car, removed deck faceplate etc etc etc, locked the doors and armed the alarm...when i got back from the movie 1.5 hours later...i unlocked the car opened the doors and decided to check the cap...the cap was ON? why's that?

also cuz of that i decided 2 test it, so i when i got home i turned off the car waited till the cap turned off closed the doors and turned on the alarm and the CAP TURNED ON when i turned the alarm on?

im confused, is this sapposed to happen? what could be the problem?

It's normal, the cap will light up when it sees a current draw.

It seems alright, i ain't a complete expert ubt maybe you should ground through your amp. What kind of cap do you have because for mine, mi caps light up when i have system on, but then again you shouldn't really have your music up without starting your engine if you got a power system or if you upgraded your altenator to a high output one or you could kill your battery.

The whole point of a cap is to reduce the power drainage from your battery. If it was charging the cap while the car was in the off position the altinator wont be recharging the battery but if your cap is pulling from it... it will kill your battery the opposite of what its suppose to do.

It should be fine as long as the cap turns off after awhile. What a cap does is basically draws in current and saves it up for use. When you off your alarm you will see your back lights flashing up. The power has to come from somewhere and i'm guessing the cap is reading the current and drawing in some energy. If your car turns off after awhile it should be fine, but if your cap stays on the whole time your alarm is on, you might have to do some rewiring.
