Honda Newbie: EK Hatch questions inside!
Hey guys,
I may be venturing into the world of Honda in the next little while. My wife needs a good reliable daily driver so we're interested in getting her into a cheap run around. A few EK hatches (one CX and one DX) have crossed my path... both appear to be very solid as far as body is concerned (no rear quarter rust or anywhere else for that matter). Both have good clutches, good brakes, good tires, solid exhaust systems, no visible fluid leaks... Neither of them have (m)any power options.
One is a 1996 CX with 304,000kms on it (runs perfectly though) and the other is a 2000 DX with 186,000kms on it.
What should I check before making the commitment to purchase? Also, what is the going rate for either of these machines? The CX needs a windshield and some latches fixed in the interior. The DX needs a good interior cleaning and tires - also needs the hood painted. Both have clean titles and valid e-tests.

2000 Dx just due to the less km. I would get them both checked out by a tech you can trust. Going rate? www.autotrader.ca

i'd go with the dx just based on the year alone. The only way I'd go with the cx is if I was going to build the car strictly for performance. as for you getting a daily driver I'd bet the few options the dx has over the cx would make a world of difference.
how much is the price difference between the 2?

looks like the 96 has been driven a lot more annually than the 00 since it's been seven years to the 00 but only four additional years to the 96 with almost double mileage... so yeah wear n tear is considerably less on the 00. i recently bought a 97 EK with 190,000 km on the clock and a bit of surface rust for approx $3500 total but i went by KBB values since i bought it from a dealer not private. if you're buying from a dealer i'd bring up KBB values because autotrader values are just what people are trying to sell their cars for not what it's actually worth

I actually never asked which one to buy. I asked what to look out for when looking at purchasing these cars... so you guys really didn't help at all.
FYI... the CX went for $1000 and the DX went for $3000.
I ended up buying an Accent - 2001 for $1500 FTW... less mileage than both.
