Question Car Hauling

Im looking to have a vehicle picked up in Winnipeg and shipped to Hamilton. Does anyone have an experience with hiring haulage companies? Any recommended companies?

Thanks in Advance!

I had a friend that sold his car to someone in Winnipeg. I remember he just put it on a train and shipped it that way.

This was 5-6 years ago, I can ask him to see if he still remembers.

I'll tow it for you but for the price it'll cost you, you'd probably be better off selling it

Here's an estimate for you from me which will be a hell of a lot cheaper then an actual towing company

approx 48hrs there and back which is approx 4500km

about $2000

To get it shipped on a train is about $1000... but you'll need to get it to the shipping yard.

ABR Car Shipping by Train USA Canada.

hope this helps

This is good, might be reasonably priced, too.

There's always the possibility of buying a plane tkt for a friend/family member who would be willing to fly there and drive it back for you. I've had friends that did that in the past, either as a favour or for a small fee, and they get a mini-vacay out of it...ok, well it is Winnipeg, but you know what I mean.

I'd still rather ship it via railcar. I would not want anyone driving my car that distance.

And it's more safer to ship by rail, and on a strict timeline too (ETA).
I ship a lot of stuff by rail everyday at work.

Then you'd know much better. It was just a suggestion to try and help, but whatever is most helpful is best.

Take a weeks holiday, rent a truck and dolly...have a nice drive. That would be nice to see.

Could be a kickass vacation.

Don't bother with a dolly for that distance. Go straight to a 4-wheels off the ground car hauler from Uhaul. $50 per day plus one-way drop-off fee if you decide to just pick one up in Manitoba rather than towing empty on the trip out.

2150 km each way - with two drivers going non-stop except for meals and gas, you could do the return trip in 2-1/2 days. Go via Detroit-Chicago-Minneapolis for cheap gasoline on the way there, and back through Thunder Bay-Sudbury-Toronto-Hamilton or alternately, Thunder Bay-Espanola-Manitoulin Island-ferry to Tobermory-Owen Sound-Hamilton.

yup I'd bring it back on a flatbed car trailer, I also work for Abrams towing so you're getting someone with experience.

thanks for all the input guys. I have zero interested in picking the car up myself, and driving it back on a dolly or any other way. I have driven that northern ontario drive 5 times now and am not overly interested in doing it again. Also, I just dont have the time or someone to do that with... The car runs good, but has an electrical problem, it will only start with jumper cables, no stereo, occasional turn signals, (there are mouse turds on the valve cover, im thinking something got chewed while sitting in my driveway for months). Also, its not plated, so fixing and driving it back doesnt work out.

Thanks for the towing offer Frozen, but your price is a little to high. I have got quotes ranging from $700 to $1300 to ship it, either truck or rail or a combination. Most of the quotes involve either taking it to a depot in winnipeg or picking it up from a depot in mississauga. Either way CAA will be my friend there!

Shipping by rail is expensive. My Mini Cooper was shipped from Vancouver for $1800. Budds paid for it, but for that kind of cash, Id pick it up myself and make a nice drive out of it.
