Planning on getting a new car in a month or two but have no idea what to get. I definately want a 4 door. After driving a hatch for so many years I'm sick of two doors. I'm probably looking to spend under 40G's.
Camry
Accord
TSX
Mazda 6
Altima
Legacy
Ruled out WRX because it only comes in manual and the wifey doesn't drive manual. Actually, I'm kinda sick of driving manual too, being stuck in traffic all the time and all.
Fack, I don't know where to start.

V6 Accord gets my vote. Lots of room inside, very well appointed with features and options, reliable and well engineered like most Hondas, good resale. My only complaint was that it was a large car.
-The 2010 Camry is getting a slight facelift and it looks like a Corolla now. They had problems with the auto tranny too.
-The TSX is seriously underpowered with the 4 banger. A V6 is coming out, but it will probably be over 40gs. The huge crome grill is kinda ugly too.
-The Mazda 6 is a very nice looking car, but also in its first year and you know what they say about those. Plus, who knows how many Ford parts are thrown into the design.
-The Altima is a decent ride. My neighbour has one and it has been problem free. Handles good and its quick too. The Altezza tail lights ruin it for me and I dont personally find it a very attractive looking car overall. I think the auto tranny is one of those weird CVT trannys.
-Legacy, no comment. Dont know anyone that has one nor have I ever looked at one myself.
G37 Sedan maybe. Get the wifey to learn and get an 09 Si Sedan or a CSX Type-S.

Yeah the CSX is a bit overpriced, but still a decent ride. I would also throw the new Mazda3 and maybe even a JPassat, Jetta or GTI in to the mix. The 2010 Mazda3 is getting good reviews in the magazines. Dubs have in the past had reliablity problems, but they are better and thats what warranties are for.
My neighbour with the Altima had a Jetta before and he says he lked it more.
There are so many cars in the 30-40g range.

The cheapest base A4 is 38gs. You could get a pretty nice A3 for under 40gs though.
Personally, Id rather have a loaded Japanese car then a base European one.

As soon as you start adding any options to the IS the price goes over 40. They are slow too and very small inside. The most basic 3 series is 35gs and again, add any options and up goes the price.

I say Hyundai Genesis, you have two options... 2 Door 2.0L Turbo built on the exact same block as the Mitsubishi Lancer Rallyart the motor was designed by chrysler, mitsubishi and hyundai.... or the 4 Door Sedan V6 Model... The price of the Gensis is reliably priced aswell....

buying cash or financing? if cash, I'd go for a two year old domestic car like a malibu or impala or taurus. they are loaded, cheap, and powerful... and they actually drive kinda nice. you sell it in 3-5 years (whenever it starts to fall apart) and just buy another one. that way you keep driving newish cars for cheap.
if financing, I'd probably lease it, right now there are many good deals. but if you are dead set on an import... I'd get the v6 accord brand new (since used is actually more expensive due to the higher financing costs).
