i found the right pic now
very similar. Anyways i think i m getting out of topic here.
As per the 09 model , it looks good , just the new exterior for the sedan doesn't quite do it for me.However it still is my second choice if i ever want to buy a new car.
The coupe civic is sick though, my first choice if i go for a 2 door.

I like the Mazda3 myself too, but I think over the long term, the Civic would be much better. The Mazda3 don't hold their value very well compared to a Civic and I doubt it would be anywhere near as reliable as a Civic. They do look stylish and have lots of features that the Civic doesn't have, but the Civic's get better options every year.
The Mazdaspeed3 is on my list for potential new car's.
But, back to the 09 Civic's. I think it looks much more aggressive, but I don't think the mechanics have changed. They are supposed to come with a USB interface and Bluetooth.

The mazda speed 3 is in a whole different category , i dont even think the civic si can compare to te mazda speed 3.
230 horsepower
0-60 5.4 sec
14 flat in a quaerte mile
and like i said the new civics are a real competition to the mazda 3. I just wish they did not make them that much futuristic looks. Still nice just not something i will go crazy about

Even the 06-08 Civic you have pictured is not a regular Civic, it's the Hybrid, which looks slightly different than the other ones.

Regarding your comment earlier about the Mazda being cheaper, it is, if you buy a used one, like you did. That's because, like Mike said, Mazda does not hold its value as good as the Civic.
If you get a new Mazda 3 you still end up paying more than a comparable Civic, and in 3-4 years the car will be worth less than the Civic. That's why my vote is for the Civic over the 3, regardless of what options Mazda gives you and how many extra horses the 3 has. Don't forget that the Civic is better on gas and insurance too, so if you were to get a Civic, you will save in that department too.

The exterior shot you have is from the 04-05 Si, the interior from the 96-98 LX/EX. I know because I had the 96-98 and my wife has the 04 Si.

I am with Mike on this too. I like the Mazda 3, and when my wife was looking to buy a car back in '04, we looked at the Mazda 3 too. I found the car to be noisier than the Civic, back then it was pricier too (brand new), and I always new that reliability on the Mazda is not as good as on the Civic. We ended up getting the Civic and we don't regret it.

I own a 200 civic and is as noise as hell on the highway. My sis has a 2003 civic and the samething. My friend bough an 07 and even though it improved , it is still a little noise on the highway.
The mazda 3 is one of the most smoothest car to drive. The only complaint i have about the mazda3 may be the gas mileage.I found that civics do a lot better in gas than mazda 3. However the mazda 3 is a lot more powerfull than a civic , hard to get power and good gas mileage.

as per being reliable. It is hard to jugde , because it you look at protege they are great cars. One of the most reliable cars out there, I have not met someone with a protege that complaints about them.
I know mazda 3 are not proteges , but they are both mazda. Only time would tell if mazda 3 are as reliable as the civics ( they came out in 2004, not even 10 years )
Both are great cars though

dont forget Honda switched the strut design in 2001 and it blows. The ride just isn't the same and repairs are more frequent and expensive. There have been arguements but most critics blame it on honda trying to keep costs down instead of raising the price of their vehicles. Also for warrenty and aids the aftermarket industry.

To go even further , i also think my civic (2000 sedan se) can take a lot more beating than the mazda 3.
