Intermediate shaft leaking

I noticed yesterday when i was about to change my oil that i had some fluid underneath my engine. So i wipe down where it was all wet and waited a couple mins to an hour. I noticed that its leaking from the intermediate shaft (half shaft) to the tranny. Now can i replace just the seal that goes around it or do i need to replace the shaft also? And can i get this seal from Honda and would they have this in stock or is it one of those parts i need to order and wait for it?

Btw its a b16 mt on a 96 civic

I think you could just replace the seal, I have experienced the same thing before. As for stocking, even if the dealer doesn't have it, it is usually ready the next day as long as you place the order with them.

Labour wise, should be a <$50 dollar job. Doable at home if you have the tools for the 32mm axle nut and a case of 2-4

It's not a $50 job Charles. It pays about 1.2hr i believe (axle seal).

This job is definately not for the novice. A seized axle or a rusted balljoint can turn things real messy.

But overall, its a pretty easy job if you know your way around a car

I went back to the guy who installed the motor and i was there watching him replace it. I even changed the tranny fluid just to be on the safe side and i also provided him with the fluid. Come to think of it, he did do it a bit cheap. I think ill go back and give him a 12pack.
