i might be wrong but i think in 92-95 the shifter forks are aluminum and are more likely to snap not bend under heavy load where as 96-00 it has steel shifter forks and it will bend but not snap. the gearing itself is the same.
correct me if im wrong.

Yeah but what EG tranny??
The CX and the DX tranny are really long geared and suck! You can do 140km's in 3rd for god sakes!
But the EX and SI tranny are the short geared tranny that you want.
Any tranny from 92-2000 will fit your Sohc engine. Just get the s20 SI tranny and be done with it. A SI tranny will take 1/2 a second off your 1/4 mile time.

yeah thats true, go with the EX or SI tranny. ive driven both and trust me its way more fun with the short gear tranny. the only downside is that if you are cruising down the highway at 120km/h you are revving over 3k RPM which kinda eats your gas more than a CX or DX with which you would be at around 2.6k RPM ?? [not 100% exact for rpms] but yeah if you are going for fuel economy go with the long geared transmission, if you are going for better acceleration go with short geared transmission.
