Tailed by POPO, so pissed off right now.

So I'm on the way home from my buddy's place, and he dropped me off at my car. I'm halfway home (5min drive) and I'm turning onto Yonge (this was in Thornhill) and I see a York Region cruiser making a left onto the street that I was coming off of. I make a right, he pulls a U turn and starts coming my way.

Obviously I realized the cop when i was at the light, so of course I had my radio down, the car reving at a low rpm, and in a high gear, as to avoid making excessive noise and all. I'm doing the speed limit the whole way (only 50) and I turn into the passing lane, and then another left to turn into my building. The cop is on my ass the entire time, even when turning into my building! I head to the underground and see through my rear view the cop is just sitting there on Yonge staring my way. Had I not parked my car and gone home he was gonna pull me over for sure.

I was doing nothing wrong, I was alone, completely sober, and driving as if I was on my exam. I'm so damn pissed right now. My car is 100% legal. Lowered legally, saftied, legal exhaust system including cat and all the other stuff. My signals are pure white (legal in the HTA) and i only have 3 small decals along the bottom of my side window. Why the hell am I getting profiled?!

The thing that pisses me off the most, is I rock PACER logos on my car, because I fully support the goals and methods of the program, and work alongside of PACER. York Region Police back the mandates of the program, and are supposed to be good willed to tuners who support the program and represent it on their legal rides. So again, why the hell am I being profiled!?

I know many of you have had this happen, and have been pulled over and ticketed too. I'm sorry if I sound like winer here, but this is really the first time it's happened to me so far, and the fact that I just moved back into York Region only makes it feel worse. I've always been unhappy with the situation most tuners in York Region are having to deal with, but it really hit home tonight. Something has to be done about this. We should not have to live in fear everytime we take our cars out of the garage. That's just wrong.

Sorry for the long post, and if I'm ranting and sounding like a baby here, but I'm just so infuriated right now, I had to vent. Thanks for listening.

PS: I know police officers check these boards, and I really hope they read this message. Tuners are being harrassed and profiled all the time, and it isn't right. Yes there are a lot of stupid drivers out there with souped up cars. However, the majority of tuners are mature and responsiable individuals who customize their cars as a hobby and make it way of life. There's nothing wrong with that. I know you have a duty to uphold, but profiling every young person with a custom car (weather it's minor or major mods) isn't right, and has proven to be ineffective. Our courts are so backlogged and held up because of frivelous tickets, it's rediculous. I'm not trying to judge you, and am trying to be unbias. I'm just asking you to think about things from the perspective of the tuning community.

the problem with that part is that most kids in there hondas aren't lowered legally and dont have legal emisions systems or stuff like that....

and you gotta remember cops patrolling in crusers are just out to make money... and most civics are an easy way to accomplish that....

Buff 'n Stuff 28-Mar-2004 12:15 AM

i had one tail me in Hamilton one night... i drove the same way as you. he followed me for 10 minutes and then pulled up to a light beside me. i'd been looking straight ahead minding my business, but i turned and looked for a second and he was turned in his seat with his arm up on the passenger seat and staring at me. so i made a comment to my buddy who was with me, and at the same time i looked at the cop and kinda smirked at him. so the light turns green, he pulls out of the left hand turning lane and starts following me again. i pulled into a parking lot down the street a little and he kept going. :shrugs: that's the only time i've felt hassled yet. i don't think it matters how you drive or what program you support. it's all a big stereotype. they look at us as troublemakers in general, just as we look at them as cops in general.

imported_Promoking 28-Mar-2004 12:21 AM

I was driving my Z24, my oldschool Z24.

Buff 'n Stuff: The problem is you smirked at him and stuff. If I were a cop I'd probably want to nail you too. I have nothing but the upmost respect for police officers. Most of them are actually really nice and cool. Even the more stern ones are have been good with me as long as you show them a little respect and sincerity.

yeah, i know.

i also have a lot of respect for them, but the way i see it, he didn't need to follow me for so long as i was doing absolutely nothing wrong... and if he looked up my plate, he would've found... nothing. so what's the point other than being a human pest? like, go solve some crime or something more useful other than annoying my law abiding ass. ya know what i mean? :D

punkindrublic 28-Mar-2004 12:43 AM

once a cop followed me up the hwy 6 hill... then kept following me through the sub divisions to my house... then like 5 houses from mine he pulls me over.... tells me my exhust is a bit loud, i'm like i didn't think it was that loud... so he checks my license see's that my house is like 20 meters away and tells me to have a good night.... :shrugs: and this was in big city waterdown... i felt special our one cop on duty was spending time with me haha

Buff 'n Stuff 28-Mar-2004 01:07 AM

did you have a beer with him like the cop did in cabin fever?

imported_starboy869 28-Mar-2004 01:22 AM

Once I had an MP follow me across from base borden. He was about two feet from rear bumper. Sure my exhaust is a bit loud and my third brake light is burnt out.

At first I thought it was one of friends just being an ass. When I turned in the parking lot of my shacks that's when I noticed it was an MP. WtF!? I should've stomped on the brakes and made sure that cop nailed me.

unfortunately not.... i did get pulled over by a chick cop some time ago that i would have going out for a drink with though.... i could like offer her sexual services and she could make my speeding tickets disappear... everybody wins

bdotdan 28-Mar-2004 02:42 AM

i've been follwed a couple of times. both were on dundas street right by my house. i didn't really care though, he was probably bored like me, and decided to go for a drive at 4:00am

Cynikal.Mindset 28-Mar-2004 02:44 AM

I like when cops tail me

imported_JohnnyToronto 28-Mar-2004 03:42 AM

Meh, big deal, happens to all of us.
It's because you're young )I'm assuming).
There's pulled me over a couple of times, to do a "random check".
As well as following me a lot of times.
I finish work at 1am on the weekdays, and past 3am on weekends so that would explain why I guess.
Get used to it.

spracingsports 28-Mar-2004 05:20 AM

i m 19 but i look like im 15-16 so i get pulled over alot in the nighttime, but i know most of the cops personally so once they see who i am, we just chat for a second about random crap and im off

Middlemiss 28-Mar-2004 08:37 AM

Since when are pure white signals legal? :D

Unfortunately you are being profiled - but this is due to the Honda street racers that have made that rep. Not your fault , so the cop tailed you no big deal. Now if he would have gave you some rodney king loving now that would be a problem.

Who knows maybe he liked the look of your car ! :D

Whiplash 28-Mar-2004 09:07 AM

when did the dime-a-dozen PACER stickers become a "get outta jail free" card??

i agree with their destination, but the trip getting there looks like a trek thru the desert..they need a new road map

imported_gatherer 28-Mar-2004 09:53 AM

you actually think they are going to be "good willed" towards those that carry PACER stickers.... please there never will be a get outta trouble with the police card. and P.A.C.E.R. is a royal **** up if you ask me. cops now know to look for those stickers simply because alot of cars are sleepers these days ... makes their job 100% easier.

seriously the P.A.C.E.R. program got the ****ed up title when they showed up at a corvette club solo 2 event to try and eduucating us the legal racers and safe racers and responsible racers about illegal cars mods.... about neons and blue windshield washer nozzles.... like come on .... all they got from that was a laugh from us. and then when a few of us being race car drivers decided to start a dialog with P.A.C.E.R. and offer a helping hand. we were told politely that they didn't need our help or want it. and that we basically were from the same boat as street racers. right . an organization that has decades of experience organizing and conduction safe and legal races can't be of any assistance to a start up organization as P.A.C.E.R.

well to make it even worse they held an event last year at mosport. a 1/8th mile drag.... only 1 event. thats it ... done... while CASC-OR held close to 200 different events or so .... so instead of capitalizing on the CASC-OR events they hold just 1...hmmmm

and At that one event ...(since a few CASC-OR drivers went for kicks and giggles) both the MTO and the police were outside Mosport handing out tickets to those that went to take the racing off the street..... and thats suppose to encourage them to come back? please. P.A.C.E.R. is new and doesn't now the ropes and is too concieded to take the help offered.

P.A.C.E.R. stickers will only help identify your car as a modded car to the police even if it's a sleep or bone stock. they will not give you a free "get left alone" card.

for the record I don't sport PACER stickers and my car is easily visible as being a modded car. I've never been tailed.

couldn't have said it better myself.... i didn't know that they refused the help starting up but it doesn't suprize me.... to me pacer is a failed experiment much like our gun regestry.... and i think it needs to be put to sleep

cibs 28-Mar-2004 10:40 AM

getting tailed by cops is nothing new, it's not like they fight real crime, they're keeping our community safe by tailling and pulling over drivers late at night.. . they probably have some class like that at cop college, how to effectivley pick which people to hassle every night when you're trying to fill your ticket quota...

NavidOG 28-Mar-2004 10:42 AM

it happens to everyone... ive had a cop almost cause an accident to pull an U-turn and tail me.... its part of the game.

h_accordexr 28-Mar-2004 11:33 AM

ha your lucky bro usually when it happens to me i get pulled over and get slapped with 3 tickets

dudebudcivic 28-Mar-2004 11:40 AM

I know ur pain they love to play cat and mouse with me! Pricks!!!

imported_Promoking 28-Mar-2004 01:06 PM

I never said get out of jail free card. But the fact that you support a program that works to eliminate street racing and educate the tuning community should count for something.

For your info, there were 2 events held at Mosport last year, and they were awsome. Yes 1/8th mile isn't the same as a full quarter, but everyone who came out had a great time from what I heard. And the cops ticketing cars outside the track, that's just BS. Durham police were amazing as far as being co-operative goes. They were not nailing people as they came and left the track. I don't know where you heard that, but it's completely fictional.

dingus88 28-Mar-2004 01:51 PM

man the first 3 years I had my license I never once got hassled by cop ever...right before I went back to school I msut have been tailed liek 100 times and pulled over for a "random documetn check" like 4 times in like 1 month.....I even got pulled over driving home from work with my mom and sister in the car...it was so snowy and I coudln't go fast at all..I coudl barley move from a stop and this asshoel cop flew by me at liek 100 km's/h then pulls me over cause I guess he was mad I was gogin slow in the snow storm and was mad that I coudlnt' leave the stop light as fast as his rwd with snow tires..:shrugs: he rode my ass so close then pulled me over...it was ****gin retarded

I ****gin hate it when cops follow me cause I know what they are doing..I know they are gonan pull me over for some stupid reason

spracingsports 28-Mar-2004 02:33 PM

you guys should just get some fire fighter stickers...... cops never pull them over, its like a courtesy.... WTF is that, just because your a firefighter's wife and you drive like an ass you dont get a ticket, well it does work, they even have firefighter plates here now....

and RASR is better than PACER, although you gotta admit, PACER has its problems, but its intentions are what matter most :shrugs:

imported_soso 28-Mar-2004 02:51 PM

Ya OPP tailed me one night in Bolton, I guess cuz no one is on the streets past midnight, but after ten minutes of me doing the speed limit they just blew by me.

JdmCanadian 28-Mar-2004 08:30 PM

I agree with Cynikal, I love being tailed by cops !!!

h_accordexr 28-Mar-2004 08:44 PM

ya true girls have it easy i got slapped with 3 tickets 1st time and then month later another 3.

imported_dmacbo 29-Mar-2004 12:12 AM

who cares if you rock a PACER sticker, you got tailed cause you have stickers on your car, exhaust, lowered, things cops look for, deal with it

bbarbulo 29-Mar-2004 10:39 AM

1st of all, you are NOT a tuner. Get that straight.

2nd... you don't drive a Civic do you? So how are you being profiled? Profiling is getting pulled over cuz you drive a certain car or you're a certain color. You are neither.... you drive a domestic and you're white. He followed you cuz you were suspicious. Who drives 50 in a 50?? That way you just draw attention to yourself. Even when being tailed, I go 5-10 over. Just to show him I dun give a fawk if I get pulled over.

3rd, if you "rawk" PACER stickers just to cut down on harassment, that's not cool. That's like a drunk driver "rawking" MADD stickers through a RIDE patrol.

imported_Promoking 29-Mar-2004 11:44 AM

How am I not a tuner? And yes, I also own a Honda Civic.

I went the speed limit becuase on Yonge street in York Region there's cops everywhere and speeding draws attention.

I run the PACER stickers on my car becuase I support the program and believe in it. I used to hit the races everynight back in the day, never raced though. I saw the error of my ways, and haven't seen a street race in over two years. It's just not worth it. Racing on a track in a controlled environment is the way to do it.

LMAO

I'm not going to answer that due to not wanting to start an internet post whoring war.... I'm much to busy at work to take the tim eto concentrate on that ... if you want the answer come out wednesday and look me up I'll be driving my blue civic with the yellow stickers.... I'll buy you a coffee then explain it to you.

FLIPTHUGZ 29-Mar-2004 01:24 PM

yea about the " My signals are pure white "...u should change dat ****..coz i got pulled over once and got a ticket for dat ****..110 buddy...but then it was drop...

How much dyno time do you have all mighty tuner? You couldn't tune a radio, let alone a motor :p

Were you driving your "project" Civic at the time of this incident? Yeah, didn't think so. He couldn't profile you based on a car that you weren't driving.

Ppl who drive slow so as to not draw attention are the most suspicious cuz they got the most to hide.

PULOVR 29-Mar-2004 09:42 PM

Why didn't you go up to the cop after parking your car, and ask him what's up?

by the time I went up there he was gone.

So your saying by following the laws which we have all agreed to abide by we are obviously criminals? hmm yeah!

I love when a cop tails me. If they get too close i down shift real quick, they can't do too much, perhaps they were "following too closely" Also if i know i'm being tailed, like I change lanes or make a few turns and they are obviously following me I just pull right over and stop. I'm usually standing next to my ride and I say to them right away, " hey thought i'd save you the trouble" I don't always get questioned as to why i feel that way but I love it when I do. "Look at me, my age, and I drive a civic, your not the first cop to pull me over, for a 'random check'" :drivesafe

bbarbulo 31-Mar-2004 11:33 AM

MassOfBass, if you were a cop... and 99% of ppl go 10 over the limit, don't signal, talk on the cell, etc etc ... and you see this one kid, he's got two hands on the wheel, looks all tripped out, he's going the speed limit, and drives a modded ****box... I'd prolly assume, as a cop, that he's stoned outta his mind. No one drives like that, so yes, it's suspicious.
