Q - What is the penalty for running a red light based on evidence obtained by a camera system?
A - The set fine for running a red light detected by a camera system is $155.00, plus a $35.00 victim surcharge
If a cop catches you, add 3 demerrit points too.
(I also read that it might be going upto $300)

The number of red-light runners captured on film at Hamilton intersections shot up by nearly 80 per cent in May. Last month, 396 motorists were sent a $190 ticket after they were caught by the city's two red light cameras, up from 221 in April.
Two cameras have been rotating on a monthly basis through eight intersections in the city since November.
Hart Solomon, the manager of traffic engineering and operations for Hamilton, said the increase might be because the cameras are at new intersections where drivers are more prone to run red lights.
It might also be because the cameras have started to fade from the consciousness of drivers because they've been around for a while, Solomon said.
"Perhaps we haven't raised the public awareness quite as much recently," he said.
The increase could be cause for concern because statistics show a direct relationship between the number of red light runners and the number of red light collisions.
Hamilton averages 350 to 400 such crashes at intersections with lights each year.
Since the campaign began, Hamilton has consistently handed out more violations than Halton or Toronto, suggesting Hamilton has more red light runners.
In May, 534 red-light runners were issued tickets in Toronto. But that city has five times the population and 10 cameras, compared with Hamilton's two.
That means each Toronto camera captured an average of 53 motorists in May, compared with Hamilton, where each camera captured an average of 198 motorists for the month.
Halton, with just one camera that rotates between four intersections, caught 14 red light runners in May.
Solomon said the reasons for the high numbers in Hamilton are not clear.
It could simply be because of different driver behaviour in the two cities or because Toronto has been very aggressively marketing its red light camera campaign.
"It's much too early in the game to draw too much in the way of conclusions," Solomon said.
The camera, placed inside a large grey box on a pole, takes three pictures any time a car enters an intersection after the light has turned red.

They don't have enough cameras to go around, so they rotate them on a regular basis.
I read tonight, in the MAX POWER mag, that in England, there are a bunch of renegades that go around spray painting the lenses so the the camera can't take pics. LOL
I'm wondering when it might start to happen here.

yeah ,but how can the camera cath my plate, in the front, its hidden under my bumper, and usually when i run a red light i turn my lights off in the process, so is it still possible for me to get caught ,since i have not been caught yet.........
