insurance hit and run help

so my brothers civic got scratched real badly by one of his friends neighbors. prob is, the stupid sentra didnt notify my brother and just left. my brother saw that sentra when he parked so yeah. sentra was gone when my brother got the scratch. car matches the color on my brothers civic.

what i'm asking is... is there a chance a police can follow my brother to ask the neighbor's who owns that sentra? or is my bro just fucked and his insurance will pay for it and the premium will just balloon?

if i had admin powers i could fix the fact this is in the wrong forum

he's probably screwed.... now a days i wouldn't even use insurance for any damages unless my car is written off or something major.... just take a bank loan to pay for repairs and it'll end up being cheaper then the insurance rates getting jacked

ok same thing happened to me (although the damage was more extensive) First REPORT the accident .... why? because it's not his fault and the police will have a record of what happened and when. Second, insurance will cover it but you will have to pay the deductable... in my case the deductable was 1000 so when it happened the damage was 1012 to get fixed so I just did it myself and saved big time.... Third, this is covered under COMPREHENSIVE coverage not collison. so it's the deductable from that coverage you have to look at. and fourthly, your premuims shouldn't go up because it wasn't your fault but in this day in age who knows

It goes under collision not comp ... comprehensive is for fire, theft, and if you hit a animal or vandalism ... collision is everything else, single vehicle, hit and run and two car collisions .... You will pay a deductible but because it was a hit and run your premiums should not go up... unless this is your 4th or 5th hit and run of course ... also, their will have to be a police report of some sorts ....

If its a hit and run you should have to pay your deductible ... I'm not sure what company your insured with but 99% of them will make you pay it ... you pay it directly to the shop you have it repaired at .... Also, I am speaking for Canadian insurance (Ontario to be exact) ... If your in the US or somewhere else, then you would have to ask someone who knows this stuff in your area ...

their are experts for this....

You can get a specialist to match the paint chips and support your claim, ask your insurance company for a contact for this work. They use them all the time in high profile cases.
