most people's plans.. allow other people to drive their car.... now if i lend my car to someone who doesn't have insurance... provided this person has a license.... anything that happens to my car will be insured... but it will go on my record not the uninsured guy.
so i can 'lend' you my car, insured under my name for the day of the accident or that you got pulled over. but it's still my car.
however, if we are a family living under one roof, and you are with another insurance company, you will be explicitly excluded from my plan if they know about it. If you were on my same plan and changed insurance companies, you will be explicitely excluded from my plan and then you cannot use my car.
if you've never had an insurance policy, you should be safe borrowing your parents' car. Just read their policy. I don't guarantee I'm right, cause ish changes all the time, and I'm not an expert in the field. I just had a lot of insurance issues when I was younger and argued a lot with idiots.
I got my dad to give the family broker ****, and suddenly his quote for me dropped by half.... I had dropped him a long time ago and gone with someone else.. when i was younger..
