Accident
I just had an at-fault accident where I rear-ended another car.
I checked my blindspot and as soon as I did that the car in front of me must have slammed on his brakes and when I looked back I too slammed on my brakes but just could not stop in time.
Does anyone know the answers to the following questions:
1. If I go through insurance how long will the accident stay on my record?
2. I could afford to pay the damages, it would be tight but it could be done. On the other hand, the point of insurance is to cover accidents so I might as well use it. What should I do?
3. My rates will go up 15%-20% if I report it, is that true?
4. If my rates sky-rocket and I do not renew the policy and go without insurance for a couple years, what will happen to my rates when I return? Will they still be just as high or do they decrease after a while?

1. 6-9yrs
2. if u can afford to pay, do it unless its mucho grande deniro
3. if u go without coverage when u goto get insurance again you may be considered a "new driver" again and have expensive premiums regardless, not to mention risking a ticket and criminal charges

Thanks for the reply.
To clarify, I didn't mean to go without insurance as in driving my car without insurance. I just meant driving my car until the policy is up and then not renewing the policy and then selling the car and taking the bus for a while. So not having insurance and not having a car.
Since I have the money I guess I will just pay out of my pocket. What a drag, but considering the situation I am in I guess it is the best option among crappy choices.

insurance companies like to see you having continual coverage, even if its just fire and theft in order to stay in good up to date standing with them...so even if u were to claim this accident and your rates went up just sell the car and pay fire and theft coverage
