Question Shock? & Springs?

Whats up gentlemen,
i have a question
ive been reading alot of posts in regards to ppl and their suspension. I keep hearing different brands... I have a 95 civic, and im curious to know which in your opinions would be a good setup of a good shock and spring...

I want coil overs so i can adjust the ride height.. and i want a good setup that makes me stick to the ground, very little movement when i try and push the shock down..

Two brands that i have been hearing about are Bilstein & Tein...

what are your thoughts??

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

How aften are you going to be adjusting the ride height? You might be better off getting a nice set of springs. Tein's are realy nice, as are eibach's. I have a '98 coupe with Eibach's and KYB shocks, and I love them.

Well i plan on adjusting it twice a year... once in the winter to raise it,,and in the summer to lower it..

like i said im lookin for a stiff ride...

I would stay away from coilovers, it has alot of "bounce" to them, and you run the risk of blowing you're shocks if you go to low! I myself are riding on stock stock shocks with Tein drop springs, love the ride, i actually had a buddy take my car for a spin last night and he only had positive things to say about my suspension!!! And i'm looking at replacing them with a fully adjustable shock/spring system to do what you want to do.

what kind of teins springs do you have? how long have you had them with stock shocks?

Is this going to be on a street car? Will it see any track events?

I ask this because "stiff" is a very broad statement. For example I use 1200lb springs regularly on track cars because thats the sort of "stiffness" I need. On street cars however, I find 400-500lb springs are usually more then ample, and coupled with thicker swaybars they make a killer daily driven combo that wont kill your kidney's over every pothole.

I would also stress the importance of a good damper. Many people fail to look at the damper quality, or assume that because its adjustable it must be better. Truth is, adjustability is far over rated, and most dampers on the market aren't valved very well, or the internals are quite poor. This is the case with most "full" coilovers on the market.

For that reason I find dampers with coilover sleeves provide a fantastic solution.

You are able to choose a damper such as a Koni or Bilstein unit, which are used in many high level motorsport cars, and have a long standing history of quality and performance.

Couple those dampers with some Ground Controls with properly chosen spring rates, and you have a fantastic combo at a very fair price.

Also, please dont overlook other suspension components such as swaybars. They are going to be a great way for you to balance roll resistence and comfort.

I have them in my car right now... for around $800 you cant beat the performance out of them. Any problems and the guys at teknotik will help you out... but I have never seen anyone blow one. The worse was sand and salt from the winter made them hard to adjust... in other words lube those bad boys up if you use them in the winter.

I got 10k8K and they aren't too bouncy ... the wife doesnt complain... I was expecting more bounce so I could watch her ***** jiggle! I little upset now but at least I cant pay attention to the road...

nope no track, just street.. it will be adjusted twice a year.. once for winter and once for summer

my buddie had a set on his BMW.. very smooth ride, then again its a bmw



i should have mentioned that i already have front and rear strut bars.. which i have noticed an improvement when turning


&& i do agree with ur comment with regards to the dampers, i guess its a little difficult to find a good product with height adjustability & a good damper

good one? that wasn't a joke... I am serious! She is my fiance and I try to go the bumpy route so I can see them jiggle. Its more fun that way... without it driving is boring

When I said adjustable, I meant damping adjustability, not height. You really dont need damping adjustability. Its more of a marketing tool nowadays, and most of the adjustment mechanisms are really horrid.
