Official Photographer's Thread
It comes to my attention that there are some pretty avid photographers (myself included) and I think a thread devoted to us would be beneficial. Share tips, tricks opinions on cameras (digital and film) and all that good stuff
Gear I use:
Canon A85 (black) 4.0mp
various amounts of compact highspeed flash memory
bounce flash adapter (softens the flash and gives a nice soft light instead of over exposing the picture with a uber bright flash)
and of course a tripod, that is KEY
Example of a pic using a bounce flash:
this pic was taken at like 2ft with a full flash and normally the flash woulda over exposed the closest places to the lens and anything shiny...but deflectin the flash upwards to the ceiling gives a cool lighting effect that gives a more nuetral "daylight" look with no over exposure...also it doesnt make you have to turn the flash off and then rely on a steady hand or a tripod for low light situations like in the pic above

john, the quality on that 3.2 is perfect, ur just expieriencing the macro flash effect...which is why I use the bounce flash...3.2mp is more than enough pixels for the average user...I can show u pics taken at 3.2mp that are superb and taken with a less capable camera at that matter.
the a95 is nice but for the money I wouldnt get it as the 1extra mega pixel and rotating screen isnt worth the money...I say the a85 is best bang for buck from canon at the moment...then again u work for FS so can get it for dirt cheap.

I gotta admit though, the A85 seems perfect for everything i'd want to do with it, and with my discount it would come to about 200 bux so thats pretty dirt cheap

okay, I'm not super familar with sony cams but I'm sure this is the more popular model out there...what u need is manual mode on the camera to achieve stellar low light pics aswell as a tripod...if there is no manual mode "P" or priority mode will be okay...also if u are able to set your ISO (speed of the "film") set it for 50 or lower, you will obtain the cleanest pics this way in low light.
u can get a nice tripod from futureshop or bestbuy for $29.99, its metal and has quick release adjusters...its pretty nice.
this was taken in cuba, I think it was an 8sec exposure...cant remember the f-stop setting...but u can see no flash was used, basically the shutter stays open for 8+/- seconds (whatever u set it at) and gathers in all the light it needs for the pic and then closes...this is how people get the nifty light trails from cars on highways and stuff like that
I'll take a look at the specs on your camera...hopefully it has a manual or priority mode on it...or else ur pretty much up the creek cuz most cameras that dont have those settings have a min exposure time of like 3sec which aint enough
hope this helps ya

opps i forgot about adding the model number and i was looking to make sure i added it...lol here it is DSC-P72. Henry's has a tripod on sale for there grand opening in brampton...heres what it says sunpak 900I UT Tripod for 49.99 from 79.99, it extends over 60" and it includes a free 2nd quick release mounting plate for second camera or camcorder, the web code is 303GET061. damn thats a wicked picture u took, with my camera there are a few modes, like "P" which i hope means program and to set my ISO i have auto, 100, 200, 400, no 50?, i would think that auto is what would make it to that. I always leave it on auto. we'll talk on msn
thnx

I don't think I'm terribly good, but I do have access to an amazing camera that I bought for my dad in Tokyo a few years back (it's a Minolta 807alpha-i, I think... forget the actual model name, plus my folks are in Ottawa), and I think I've managed to take some pretty good shots with it. If anyone wants to see some of them, PM me with your email address and I'll invite you to the photoalbum of pics I took while in Vietnam this past summer (I'm too paranoid to allow public access).

iso 100 is still a lil fast and the pics wont be as clean as with a lower ISO..."P" is for priority and that means that tha camera will self adjust the aperture and shutter speed to get the light needed to expose the picture
