Urgent: Broke Ignition
Well, another attempt of my friends civic being stolen, unsuccessful thank god!!
they broke the ignition by inserting a flat head screwdriver i suspect and twisting it completely deforming it being unable to put the key inside....
the car cannot be driven now and was wondering what would he need to do now?
what parts and approx. cost you would think in getting this car back on the road?
urgent matter, please help ASAP
thanks!!
edit: its a 92 DX HB

i think this was in another thread not too long ago, something about buying another ignition from the dealer and it was between $100-$200, not cheap, but necessary i guess.... someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but i think it pretty much sums up what someone else posted, and i believe a new ignition would come with a key.... down side might be that there would be a different key for the door and the ignition? can someone confirm? or would you just change the door too? i can't imagine it would be worth it.....

The dealer can get the same key ignition, since there are only so many keys cut by Honda...so there is another Civic out there with the same key. It's pricey, like a couple hundred bux...I had this problem on another car....years back. I just hooked up a push button with a series of hidden switches, so you gotta have the switches in the correct position to start the car. Plus you have to find the switches. But the key is needed if you want to have the locking steering. By the way, to get another ignition, it's done with special screws that the heads are broken at the factory, so you have to drill them out with easy outs, then install new ones and break the heads off again.

if ur friend just wanna drive it around while its still broken try unscrewing i think 3 philips head screws on the opposite end where u stick in the key and just turn the white plastic piece clockwise with a flathead screw driver or something that'll fit.
the thief wasnt that good IMO. which is always good coz they dont know how to properly start the car.
my .02 cents
