Sub Question

I have a 200rms cerwin vega sub. My question is how strong of an amp would I need to power this sub to its potential? And suppose I have an amp which is WAY stronger then 200 rms is it really risky to blow it? Or is there some way to use only 200rms? Im a noob help

also need a 12 inch box. How much do they go for?

it depends, what is the voice coil config on your sub?
If it's only single 4 ohm, the amp won't be giving it full power anyhow, then you can have the gains way down. Also, what amp are you using?

try and match the rms to the amp respectivel, some subs will play well with more power, some will find it difficult. As far as orion, if its an HCCA then watch out those things are underated alot and will make some juicy power when loaded down.

turn the gain to minimum, then set it until the sub starts to distort, then turn it back slightly and ur set.

^^ yeah but if the amp is giving the sub more than double it's power, even if it's not distorting, it'll blow eventually.

true, if it really matters you can pick up a 200wrms rockford amp at FS for like $200 or less.

I had 2 CV Hed 12" running off a MATS d200hc 1200 watt rms amp.

I had the gain set down and at higher colume I noticed the speakers didn't like the excess power that much, so watch out with hose.
